Hey,
When my dog was young and she pee'd on the carpet. I got her potty pads, this one trick worked really great! I put a bell on a door knob that was on a string (make sure you put the bell on a door to go outside!) and every time she had to go out she rang the bell....now when ever you take your dog out ring the bell when your walking out with your dog, the potty pads put them in places your dog usually pee's and your dog might get the hint to go on them now each week if I were you I would more the pads closer and closer to tile or hard flooring or even close to the door so your dog can know go ring the bell also! Also put a pad in his cage!
Dogs have an instinct not to pee where they sleep. If a dog is peeing in the crate, I can think of only three reasons.
(1) The crate is too big and he is able to sleep without getting wet by the pee. If this is the case you need a smaller crate during house training.
(2) The dog has cannot "hold it" long enough, even though he is trying. This is the case with young puppies, but you say your dog is 5 months. Very small breeds cannot "hold it" as long as larger breeds, so that may be what's going on. Otherwise, there may be a medical reason and he should be checked by the vet.
(3) You are asking him to stay in the crate too long, and he cannot "hold it" for that length of time.
During the day, a reasonable schedule might look like this:
6:00 am Wake up, get out of crate, go straight out to pee
6:10 am come back in (human breakfast) dog breakfast
6:30 go back out after eating, play outside, probably poop
7:00 come inside, wait in crate while humans get ready for their day
7:30 one last time to pee before everyone leaves the house, then back in crate with a Kong toy to keep busy
8 - 12 noon sleep in crate
12 noon come out of crate and go straight out to pee
12:15 lunch for humans and pup
12:30 go play outside, probably poop
1:00 back in crate to sleep
4:00 or 5:00 humans get home, straight outside to pee or poop
5:30 back inside for dinner
6:00 after dinner, back outside to play and probably poop
6:30 a walk and/or some serious playing outside for exercise, because puppy has been sleeping all day while you've been gone
7:30 training or grooming indoors or out, but be sure to take him out both before you start and after you finish
8:30 resting in crate while humans do chores or homework or watch TV or other evening activities
9:30 outside to walk around, chase crickets, pee before bed
10:00 bedtime - in the crate for the night
Since he's having this problem, he should be in the crate for not more than 5 hours at night without a break. I would set an alarm for 3 a.m. and walk him then take him straight back to the crate. Do not do a lot of playing - this is not fun time - it is strictly for business.
Stick to a schedule and you'll have better success. Good luck, and let us know how it goes.
Thats a tough one. I was going to suggest a crate but you have already done that. Try doing this if your not already. Feed him in his crate as well. The thought as that even wild animals dont pee and poop were they eat and sleep. He may just need more time outside. Start on the weekend or on your day off and keep him out with you for at least 4-5 hours. Your carpet will thank you. Also praise him while he is going out side so he knows this is the place to do it.
well the it never works with putting hes nose to it...wen you do that it makes the relationship of the owner and the dog bad but if you more research on it you can probably find out how to do it but your really supposed to make them spell say no and pop them and then put outside for a while or somewhere in timeout. but if you watch the tv show its me or the dog it can really work out good and it will help you
