It really is true that time travel is impossible. There is a specific reason for it being impossible. The reason lies in the physics trilogy, which is: E = mc2, m = E/c2, and c2 = E/m. The last equation is for that of a field of gravity or a field of physical time. These two values are described by different names but are the same. The force of gravity is a mass to energy relationship, and as a value able to stand by itself. The first two equations, though, state why time travel is impossible.
In the first equation notice that the "c^2" value is the multiplier while in the second it is the divider. In each of these equations the basis of the equation is that of c2. What this tells us, is that the basis of our universe (all energy and mass values) is totally composed of the value of c2. This value determines absolute reality. If there were to exist any form of energy or mass, and it were not totally formed of this value, it would cease to exist to us.
The value of c2 is also that of the duration of physical existence before it moves into becoming the past. It describes that all that exists to us (because we too are totally composed of the c2 value) is a time limit of c2. There is no room in the equation for this value to exist as any other entity other than that of "present time".
Lastly, it is interesting that were our universe to be totally dissolved, it would convert into electromagnetic radiation. This radiation would all be moving at the value of "c", and our universe, physically, would have become one-dimensional and the concept of time would no longer exist.
Time travel violates causality. The univserse does not tolerate contradiction. No time travel.
Example: Make a little time machine. Put in a Barbie and set it to 5 minutes in the future. Barbie disappears and reappears 5 minutes later. Pull her out and another Barbie materializes. She was sent back in time 5 minutes hence.
Almost 5 minutes pass, what happens if you don't put the second Barbie into the time machine and send it back 5 minutes? The second doll is in your hand - it isn't going anywhere if outside the machine. General opinion is that the universe blinks out of existence to avoid contradiction.
the only way to travel through time would be to go faster than the speed of light if you could do this you really wouldn't be going back through time but would be seeing things that had already happened

Only if you have enough energy to break through the third dimension.

Doesn't work any better wth a GI Joe.

i doubt it too but maybe "string theory" may have something to do with this myth....
