I'm starting to look at a Vietnam trip and my initial thought is that I will only have time for either Hue or Hoi An. I has read about Hue and Hoi an at http://www.vietnamtravelshow.com/ . Which does everyone recommend and why? Or, if I stay in Hoi An an extra night, is it possible to do Hue as a day trip? If so can anyone recommend a good tour guide?
Thanks!

Hi, welcome to Vietnam
Both Hue and Hoian are more than worthy to visit. If you have one additional day in Hue, then you can surely visit Hue.
Besides time for relax, you need two days to see 3 world heritage sites:
Day 1: Drive to visit Myson, 45km away from Hoi an, to see Champa temples buit from the 4 to the 13rd centuries and enjoy a beautiful Champa perfomance of dance, flute, drums and songs. Back to Hoian for lunch. After that see old houses, temples, assemblies, the Japanese Bridge and meet friendly people in Hoian. Both Myson and Hoian were recognized by UNSCO as World Heritage Sites in 1999. See more Hoi an attractions: http://www.hoiantravelshow.com/hoi-an-attractions....
Day 2: Drive to Hue via Danang city and the beautiful Hai Van Pass. Visit the Citadel, Perfume River, Thien Mu Pagoda, Tu Duc or Khai Dinh Tomb. Lunch in Hue. Back to Hoian taking the Hai Van Tunnel. See more Hue attractions: http://www.huetravelshow.com/hue-attractions.html
I did the both Hoi An and Hue trip. Each city has own unique. Hoi An has much more activities than Hue. So i spent 4 days in Hoi An and 1,5 days in Hue.
