Up to this day there is nothing we can do about the past but learn from it. However, take a look what happen as we get old. Our teeth start to fall down, we get smaller since all the vertebrae starts to join to together, our hair fall off, our bone start getting deteriorate it. All the organs in our body stop working properly. That's why we see so many people in a home with diaper and in many cases not able to speak. In that way we are traveling back to the past as when we were a baby and we become sore like a baby. Maybe is better that we don't travel to the past. When everything fail we die and somebody have to take charge, exactly what happened when we were born. Maybe I'm not answering your question. When the world end and there is not human being in the universe chances are we had been gone and travel to the past, then the world would start from the beginning.
Some physicists don't believe that it is impossible to travel backward in time.
Some theorize tachyon particles that can travel faster than the speed of light, while others argue that they can't be particles because they would carry information that would arrive before it was sent (violating causality), so they insist that they are tachyon fields (which don't violate causality).
I believe that time marches forward, and if we move faster, time marches forward slower. As we approach the speed of light, time slows to a stop. No mass can travel faster than "the speed of light in a vacuum" because the mass turns into pure energy (energy in the form of light) as it approaches the speed of light.
So, if we could "throw a saddle" on a beam of light and ride it like a horse, we would be able to be in all places along the light beam simultaneously.
In a medium (such as gas), particles can travel faster than light can travel in the medium (the speed of light, in this case, is called the phase velocity). When particles do travel faster than light in a medium, they sort of "break the light barrier. . . the way a plane can break the sound barrier" and they give off a cone of light. This is the cone of light that is detected in neutrino detectors. The cone of light is called Cherenkov radiation.
If time travel to the past is possible, events could alter the present, and make our existence or time travel impossible (thus, create a paradox). The paradox is: If we traveled back in time and made it so that we currently don't exist, how can we now build a time machine and go back to the past?
Time Travel! Its In The Title And You Travel Through TIME! So it is possible. And You Cant Mess Up The Past And Ruin You Future Because Thats Life It Was Ment To Happen.
It might be impossible to travel to the past but German scientists that worked on "The Bell" during WW2 claimed to have seen into the past by looking at a mirror attached to the top of The Bell.
If it was possible the universe would be ripped apart. In order to cross the time barrier you have to go through other dimensions of time and space.the same event would recreate its self over and over again thus ripping apart the dimensions. The universe would be sucked inside its self and implode.

Because there is no known theoretical method to do it, much less any kind of device, that's why.

To travel to the past, you need a device to get you there. Since the device did not exist in the past, you wouldn't have had it to get you there.
I love time travel questions, time travel has many paradoxes. They are fun to explore.
Simple conservation of energy approach:
Simply by being there you must effect great change.
(eg. You would displace air simply by existing and all that air from
then to the present must move in consequence to place you there.)
Where would the energy to do that come from?

Superman did to save Lois.
Im not sure but it could be.. just have too wait and see.... but if that could be possible....
