I was looking at pictures on the website of the church that my Russian friends go to. In some of the pictures they had headscarfs on. I was just wondering why.

Do the different colors mean something?
Thanks(:

In true Russian Orthodox church (that is situated in Russia or Belarus) people who go to church should follow particular rules in clothing: women should wear headscarfs covering all your hair, skirts that should go down at least to your knee but the longer the better, or it can be a dress. No shorts (even for men), no flip flops, and no hats for men inside the church. The colors have a meaning only in clothes of the priest etc.
And one more thing about our church is we don't have benches to sit as Catholics have in their church. Even 80-year-old women are standing 3 or 4 hours knowing that it is good.
Its in the book of Corinthians somewhere that a woman should cover her head in church. That was a cultural reference at the time, but the Orthodox church isn't too far from Corinth so its not impossible to see the tradition passed down over time.
It is common for Orthodox Church to ask women wear head scarves, while on the Church service.
Though women are allowed to go without head scarves these days more often.
it's just about each Church individually - whatever they agree on the general attire.
It is true that in Russian churches sometimes women wear scarfs on their heads. It is a sign of modesty and piety. But not a requirement of Orthodox church in general. Greeks do not have this custom.
