Potty training ...?
My daughter is almost 19 months. She started dragging me to the potty when she was 17 months, I got her to actually go in it twice. Now she just likes to sit up there bare-butt and wipe. I turn on water, pour water in the toilet, etc. No avail. The second I take her off and put her back in a diaper (too small for pull ups) she potties! It's like a game to her or something. Any tips? And yes, I've sat her on the toilet for 5+ minutes trying to get her to go about 20 minutes after she drinks from her sippee cup. Her fascination wtih the bathroom only goes as far as bathing and wiping, not actually using the toilet.

Good news: She's still early in the process. This is normal. She will come around soon. Don't discourage her from her "fascination" with the restroom; that might prolong things. Just be patient; she will potty train in her own time. It will be a glorious moment.
Try leaving her on the toilet longer and reading a story to her, there are some really good books for kids about learning to go potty. Another thing you can try that was suggested to me by a psychologist when my son was reluctant to learn, is take her to the bathroom and sit her on the potty every 15 min until she goes and then praise her profusely. clap your hands, dance around the bathroom, or give her a small treat or toy she gets only for going to the bathroom. This is normal. She is still young for potty training. Most children don't potty train until after 2 years old. Just let her go through at her own pace. If you push or show frustration, she could regress. The hardest thing as a parent is to NOT have expectations of our children. But I find if you don't expect and follow their natural pace you will be pleased with the results.

Yeah, I tried starting her out by sitting on it before her bath, just to introduce it and show her what it's for. She happened to go on it once, just because it happened at the time, but she didn't even get excited or anything. Now, she's more interested in just being in the bathroom and throwing her rubber duck in the tub instead of sitting and going potty.
My daughter is the same age as yours. I had a problem keeping her on the potty. Then my friend told me to read to her or sing to her this did not work either. This is funny what works for my daughter is letting her brush her teeth while she sits on her potty. I guess while she is brushing her teeth she forgets that she is sitting down. Sometimes she goes and other time she doesnt.
hi! im not a mother, but i do remember being potty trained (does that count?) the ladies at my preschool took all of the kids to the bathroom once an hour or so. sometimes we did need to go, sometimes not. you dont have to take your daughter every hour, but you might want to try having a really regular schedule. also, i would walk away from her while she's going/not going. she might feel like you're serious and its not a game. good luck!
It's funny...my 4 yr old son was the same way. One day, when he was about 2 years old, he just started going by himself without any help, and he has gone ever since then. I gave him some 'big boy pants' and he has been potty trained ever since (except for at night) . All kids are different though...I'm sure she just needs more time.
You should be happy she understands the concepts of what she needs to do in the bathroom. She's on the right track. Time, just a little more time.
