how long does it usually take to fully potty traian puppy!?! my dog is now 15 weeks or so, and she is very picky about where she eliminates! sometimes she refuses to go in the back yard then i have to take her to the front, and vise versa! she understands she is supposed to urinate outside but for some strange reason she wont ask to go outside. if i dont take her out every 30 min or so when shes not in her crate, she will go inside anyways. and as for number 2 she doesnt like to do outside period!! i pretty much know when she has to go so i sit outside with her for up to 30 min to let her go and when she doesnt i put her straight back in her crate for another 30 min or so. however when she does go number 2 outside she knows shes doing what she is supposed to because she automatically runs inside to where we keep her treats. i'm tired of picking up poo in my house!! how long does this usually take? we have had her for a month now
Update:ugh she just went poop in the house again!!!!! i sat outside with her for 30 min and figured she didnt have to go since she went 2 hours ago, but i saw her sniffing so i thought i would give it a try! not even 5 min after i brought her back in she did her business on the floor!

It just depends on the dog.
I have 2 10 week old puppies who are sisters i have had them for a month. the brown puppy has been consistent and has only had 2 accidents in the house both when i was not paying attention (my fault) the black puppy has been a challenge she was fine in her crate until she got sick in it (#2 and vomit) once while i was gone and for some reason smeared it eveywhere after that she goes through stages were for 3 or 4 days she will be good and have no accidents and then for a day or two have 3 or 4 accidents in one day on these days she will ot ask to go out she will just go and then walk in it and get it everywhere (she sometimes needs a bath) and then lay down and be content all dirty other days she will hold it for a ten minutes until i can get her out so i guess it is puppy specific but your dog should be better than she is you are the boss and you decide where she goes to the bathroom i have four dogs and they all go in the same spot if she wont go walk in a circle around on around the area 1 that will stimulate her bowels and she wont be able to hold it in and 2 dogs walk in circles sniffing the ground right before they "go" maybe she will get the idea but do not let her leave only give her one spot to go and start saying "good girl go pee" when she goes after a while if you say that it will trigger her and she will go on command

With your dog, this should be you.
Right now your puppy is testing you and challenging you as to who is the leader, you or your puppy.
The best thing to do is stick to a schedule.
Make sure you keep to it.
Your puppy will learn when it's time to go out and learn to hold it until then. Crate training is good as well.
But the most basic thing you can do to train the puppy is to keep her on her bathroom schedule.
Dogs like their routines and over the next few months, you'll get her used to the schedule you create and she'll be a good and happy doggie.
I've done this with all of my dogs and they've all responded to this well.

I had peety pads and I kept putting my puppy on it and saying "Good boy goes out" while petting him and giving him a treat. I kept doing this for about 20 mins 3 or 4 times a day. He's pretty much trained now. Sometimes if his peety pad isn't in the EXACT place I'll see him running around like hes about to go, and all I have to go is point to the pad and say "Good boy goes out Casper" and he'll run to it and eliminate. It honestly only took me 2 weeks.
He's a 12 week old Maltese, btw.
For my large breed dog it took a little over 6 months. For my sisters small breed dog, it took almost a year. Good luck!
