My new dog (2 years old) is potty trained and never (well can't say never but hardly) goes in the house. When I take her outside in the afternoons and evening she will go ususally after two minutes of walking her around the yard.
However, in the morning before our walk she will not use the restroom in the yard. I walk her around the yard for about ten minutes trying to get her to use the restroom before we start walking. I then give up and we start for our walk, which of course she goes just about the time we pass the neighbor's yard. It's as if she knows we're walking and thinks, why go in my yard when there are other yards.
I'd like to make it routine that we don't walk until she goes, how do I relate this to her?
Thanks!

What you need to do is take her back in the house when she doesn't go. Wait ten minutes, and try again. When she finally DOES go (She can't hold it in forever!) give her a treat and praise praise praise! THEN, you can proceed with her walk. She will pick up on the message you are trying to send her very quickly!
Good luck!
Put on her lead as if you are going to walk. Have a treat in your pocket... that she does not know about.
Walk her one time around the yard and out of the yard as if you are going to go for your walk, but then walk her right back into the yard and around the yard again. Do this a couple of times. If she goes in your yard, praise and treat.
If she still has not gone in your yard, keep her in the yard till she goes. Jog her lightly around the yard one time to get the body moving if you have to. But the key is DON'T LEAVE YOUR YARD TILL SHE GOES AND PRAISE AND TREAT!!! If this means you have to cut your walk a little short because of time, then so be it. She will soon catch on that if she goes sooner, she gets to go for a walk and she gets praise and treats.
Best of luck
Make a routine not to take her out of the yard in the mornings because the more she does this pattern the harder it is to get her out of this habit. Maybe in evening and afternoons give her a reward like a cookie (treat) for going potty in your yard to let her know she is doing a good thing.
ther are two things i suggest one amd it is a little gross but if you get other dogs stool and put them where you want the dog to go it will encourage the dog to go there the other thing is you may be aski8ng too much of your dog my dog never goes until he has had some excercise the bowels seem to move better if he walks a bit i think thisis needed before they will go ..unless they ate a great deal the previous eve also go to a doggy advice website and find out there
I agree wholeheartedly with gymRAT
