It is actually possible to get an infection in your navel. Odor can be your body's way of telling you that something is awry. You should see your doctor. You could have a small sore in your navel that has become infected.
For now, I would apply Neosporin with a Q-tip and make an appointment with your doctor. Perhaps by the time of your appointment, it will have resolved. If not, you may require antibiotics.
Try putting a little talcum powder or starch in your belly button after washing and drying it. You could also stick a small piece of cotton in it if you can do so without it falling out. Usually if there is something growing there, the cotton will stick to it and once the cotton starts falling out it means that it is getting better. My belly button smelled for years, but recently it just stopped by itself...maybe it is because I no longer wear underwear. All infections of this kind are caused by too much warmth and not enough air. Good luck.
Clean your naval with a little hydrogen peroxide on a cotton swab. If it is very deep, it can remain very moist inside and get a little yeast infection. Just keep it clean and dry all the time and if it doesn't stop smelling after a few days, consult with your doctor about what to do next.
I know this can be a serious problem for some people, smelling in certain areas but I havent heard of the naval befre. Im certain there would be a cream or soap available to stop this. If you dont wash it twice a day already though, try that

Wash it more often?

It is probably a yeast infection. Use an antifungal cream and see if that helps.
I'd like to see you smell your own belly button. Would you please post some vid or photos? huh...please?
