He is a puppy!! They chew because they are teething.

You need to be in the yard with him alot to train him on what he can and cannot do. Train him stay away from the cars. It can be done but you have to spend the time with him in order for him to get the message. Be consistent.

Take him for walks to get some of that energy off. If he is only staying in a yard that not very big he will have built up energy and that can cause him to get into trouble.

I am sure you have a good dog (most are), it's the people who own them that causes problems for the dogs. It is sometimes easier to give away a "problem" rather than take the time to train him to be what you want him to be.

Get him toys that he will enjoy playing with. For chewing, I recommend a Nylabone. Get him a large nylabone. When he wanders off and start to go for something he is not suppose too tell him "NO!" and put the nylabone right in his mouth sideways and lead him off to go and chew.

Give him toys, nylabones, kongs, your time, love, nice long walks and patience and be determined to make him a well behaved dog.

There is a product called Bitter Apple Spray that you can apply to just about anything. It tastes bad to dogs, and they usually won't chew on anything it is applied on. Using a metal can filled with coins or rocks and shaking it near him when he approaches the car can also help to solve the problem as many dogs dislike loud unfamiliar noises.

You puppy may also be teething. Since he is about 6 months old he could be getting his adult teeth in and the chewing feels good to him now and he may outgrow it (mine did). Instead of getting him to stay away from the cars, get him a good chew toy, and any time he goes to chew something he shouldn't tell him no, and then give him the chew toy and praise him for chewing it instead.

I wouldn't advise using a tie-out stake or anything along those lines because puppies can become tangled in them and choke if they are not carefully watched. Instead, its just going to take some hard work and close supervision on your part to get your puppy to where your family and he are both happy.

He's a puppy. He chews things. That's what they do. Here's what you do: Give him his own toys to chew. Kongs are the greatest dog toy ever invented- a big hunk of bouncy red rubber. I'd suggest getting him one of those and tell him how good he is when he plays with it. On stuff he shouldn't be chewing, mix up a noxious blend of Tabasco, peppers, etc and paint it on the surface. That'll be the last time he'll put his mouth on that object! I did that with my dog when he chewed on the baseboards as a puppy. Just remember, puppies, like children respond well to positive reinforcement. Hitting them will make them fearful, when they do something good, pet him and praise him using his name, "Good Spot! What a good boy Spot is!" Also name his toys with easy one or two sylable words to teach object recognition. "Kong is good! What a good boy Spot is playing with his Kong!"

Patience is the key. He'll be a puppy with puppy manners for about 2 years. You need to train and work with him daily to become a well-behaved pet.

additionally you could try some conditioning by making a loud noise (like shaking a glass jar full of nuts and bolts or something) everytime he goes to chew on the car.

same principle but a different method is to squirt a little bit of cold water onto him when he chews the car....... like through a little, not very powerful water pistol.

Well he is 6 months old so he is probally teething in a few months he will probally be over his teething stage try telling your Dad to wait awhile and if he doesnt improve then he can get rid of him although i understand that you dont wanna get rid of him I wouldnt either :( another solution would be maybe you should try keeping him in the house hope this helps and that you can keep your puppy!!!!!:D

get a bottle with stones in it. and stand near the dog and ignor him. when he goes to chew something hes not ment to shake the botle as hard as you can and tell him NO. you can try this with squirting him with water in stead.

also puppies lose there baby teeth (teething) like children do, and chewing helps with the pain, so give him lots of chew toys and reward him for using them.

There are dog repellants sold at pet stores and garden centers that can be sprayed on anything you don't want your dog to go near. They are not strong enough for a person to smell but it does a good job of keeping dogs away.

You can buy this spray stuff at the pet store. I don't know the name of it but it has a sour apple taste. you can spray it on stuff that your dogs chews on. As soon as he gets one taste of that stuff he will not like it. Once he starts to familiarize the bad taste with the object he is chewing on he will not chew it anymore. Give it a try.

Get him toy's.

Spray something on the items he's chewing now to keep him from chewing them. Something non toxic and safe. Bitter Apple never worked for me though, although many folks have had great success with it.

keep him in the house, just take him outside every 20 min. at first to go to the bathroom. be sure you are consistent about letting him outside on a leash to use the rest room. take him for long walks so he'll be tired and not as interested in chewing things up!!! Good luck
