This is the classic striker vs. grappler match-up. You don't have to guess who would win. This sort of fight happened many, many times in the early days of the UFC. The grapplers won at least 90% of the time. That is why everyone in mma tpday trains BJJ.
id say a muay thai fighter, i know a gym i once went to.it specialized in muay thai and mma and some bjj..more so the emphiazed was with Muay thai, anyhow they did teach takedown defense, it was no matt hughes defense skills..but i mean with a okay takedown defense and if your fighting a not world class BJJ fighter you can do alright..Espically if your a great striker and muay thai, uses knees, elbows, feet and hands..if this was a street fight or pride fight id give it to the Muay thai fighter, a few months or the minor takedown defense can help..Plus the BJJ fighter might eat a knee if they go for a takedown, unless they get in close and clinch up and use a variety of throws, other wise youd shoot in and get kicked or kneed..and than from their the muay thai fighter could soccer kick, stomp, you
it depends though
Ricardo arona
was k.o. by shogun rua
both are black belts in bjj
but ricardo is the better bjj fighter
than again, the early UFC's Showed with royce Gracie how important it is to at least have some jui jitsu or wrestling skills to at least get back up or have good takedown defense
That's like comparing candy and steak.. Muay Thai is more of a dirty street fighting kind of styles.. All about the strikes. Jiu Jitsu is all about the ground work, and it can be extremely effective in the ring. But in a street fight Muay Thai all the way.
If the BJJ fighter is forced to stand then he is at a disadvantage.
If the Thai boxer is forced to fight on the ground then he is at a disadvantage.
This type of matchup is the oldest type in MMA, the striker versus the grappler and it has been proven hundreds of times that the grappler will always have the upper hand if the striker to thrown to the ground.
The muay thai fighter would have to keep it standing up and the bjj person would have to take him down.
The thing thats hard about taking down a muay thai fighter is that for alot of take down you shoot for the legs. But since muay thai fighters are good at knees, what can happen (ive seen this) is when the bjj guy goes in, he dives right into a knee that drops him.
it depends on the fighter. if i was gonna fight Brandon Vera, i doubt i'd win. but if Royce Gracie did, i bet he'd win.
personally i think BJJ holds an advantage over Muay Thai. due to the fact that they can grapple and crudely strike but the MT can only strike.
the 2 answers before me were obviously from little kids who know nothing of fighting at all. a double leg is not the only way to take someone down and the mechanics behind it is again obviously misunderstood. you dip below their knee and explode up. leaving no place for you to get kneed. but BJJ teaches you throws too.
muay thai all the way. if it's a truly good muay thai fighter, he will just knee the bjj guy really hard. bjj guys are also not trained to hit so they will just get beat up really badly.
say.. in real fight...i think MT dont have any chance to win....because MT have many "grap-able" zone like knee...legs...elbow...arm and BJJ's technique sets every enemy strike as a chance to grab

It depends what the rules of the fight are.

if muay thai keeps it up he wins

the better fighter will win. If the Muay Thai fighter keeps the fight standing he'll win, if the BJJ fighter gets the fight to the ground he'll win.

Never saw a MT man beat a BJJ man in vale tudo.
Of course, I never saw any style ever do anything alone - it was always a person winning or losing.
