The diploid number will be the number of chromosomes in the somatic cells and the haploid number (i.e. half) will be in the gametes. At fertilisation the gamete will fuse with another coming from either a male or female and form a zygote which will have the full diploid number once again.
Somatic cells will have 36 chromosomes and gametes will have 18.
