Ok so I'm in high school now and I plan to do indoor and outdoor track. I've done track before and usually do short distance/sprinting but the last two years (7th and 8th grade) I ran it in summer camps at a public high school but the two years before that (5th and 6th) I ran it for my old school. The thing is my school was a Catholic school though and small so even though we worked out pretty well to me and stuff I'm not sure if the program was as good as the other public schools around the area and not sure about my ability compared to the other athletes(since a good amount of the sports at the high school are competitive and try to be good teams so the middle schools try to help prepare). The football team and girl's basketball team kind of set the standards for my school. I plan to try and convince my mom to let me go running around my block starting this week (she's really paranoid about letting me go outside on my own though) so I can prepare for the runs in practice so I don't burn out easily. But I know I also need to do other things like squats, core workouts, and push-ups. I wanted to know from experienced people how I should split up the days and also how can I try to increase my strength and speed some in and around my house by the time it starts and during the season? I heard resistance bands work but I'm not too keen on it. Any other advice is welcome, thanks.

well, i'm looking to get a scholarship by senior year, hopefully to a d1 college. I didn't run XC, but i started running competitively this year during indoor track, and ran a 4:58 mile and a 2:15 800m. I know I am good for a freshman, but I know I'm going to have to work extremely hard to get a scholarship to a d1. That requires a 4:10 1600 or less and an 800 under 2:00 at least.
I would recommend lifting weights twice a week running sprints twice a week and running 2-3 miles once a week
Your coach will help train you once you get started. BUT DONT lift weights unless there leg weights. Getting your arms bulkier will just slow you down. I would run Monday thru Friday but take wensday and saturday off.
Hope this helps!
