I am a single woman, mid-20s, traveling soon to Ho Chi Minh City on business, where I will be staying for about six weeks. This is very much last minute and I'm scrambling for information. This question is mostly about accommodations...can anyone recommend places to stay (I'm thinking the U.S. equivalent to the "Hotel with weekly rates") or at least start to investigate that would be considered safe for a woman alone? I don't want to go 5-star but I don't want a dive either.
That is my main question right now, but any additional travel advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!

...i mostly stay in "dives" down in the tourist area.....i'll occasionally go have a drink or dinner on the roof top of a five star hotel.. what your looking for is something in between.. and you can find that all over sai gon...sai gon is a fairly big city.. and it can be slow getting around because of how congested it gets [especially in late afternoon]..so your 1st concern [past safety] is location near where you have to be ..where is that..?...you say you are going on business..i would recommend that you have the people you are going to be doing business with recommend a place... if thats not feasible my next suggestion would be to have your taxi take you to the "METROPOL" down in district one.. its 3-4 star place, with a swimming pool..very close to the back-packer area..but much classier... i once had a small suite there for $45us..while there you can go around and find something more suitable... again i stay in dives.. but i've found every place i've ever stayed[knock on wood] to be safe.....you might try the DONG PHUONG[oriental] on the corner of pham ngu lau , and de tham street..[ small but clean and safe rms] there are a few other nice places in that area also
