I have been told not to put cream cheese on anything that is in the microwave.. do you know if there is a medical reason as to why you should not microwave cream cheese or mayo??
It is totally fine to microwave cream cheese as a way of softening it. In fact, it is like any other cheese in that microwaving it is a great way to melt it. As for mayonnaise, it contains raw eggs so microwaving it might actually make it safer to eat, but it will loose it's normal consistency and more closely resemble an odd emulsion of oil and eggs. Personally, I would never microwave mayonnaise because I find it disgusting at any other temperature besides for chilled.
A friend of mine that worked at burger king told me once that they aren't allowed to re-heat any of the burgers that have mayo in them in the microwave. I think she said it can spoil faster or spoil when it's reheated, something like that. As for cream cheese, I have no idea. I heat up cream cheese in the microwave to make apple dip all the time, never had a problem.
Medical reason, I have no idea.... but both get extremelly hot very fast and tend to splatter... not safe, and also , they just don't taste good after being microwaved :s
