You probably need to run your check disk in DOS. When you cut your computer on, start intermittently hitting your F8 button. Eventually you will get a menu. Choose command prompt only. At the command prompt type:
In my computer, right click the drive select properties and then tools. Check disk is there but make sure you turn on both repair options. It will refuse to do this till you restart, do not interrupt it once it starts checking, as this could make the system unusable.

Open your start menu, click "Run", and type the following into the box:
chkdsk
The program should then open and run. It might take awhile, be patient.

Start..then run..then type in chkdsk....a black window will open that searches it in stages and tells you the % of completion.
