SO.....I go to a camp every summer, and there is this boy that i like that is one year younger than me. First question....is it normal for an 8th grader to like a 7th grader? He is really nice and everything (which i know) but i barely ever talk to him. What am I supposed to say? How can I get him to like me back? I only see him for 1 month a year (for camp) so what should I do? Do not give an answer if you are going to tell me to find somebody else. Thank you so much for giving suggestions!
Update:Alright...I just want to add a few things. First off, thank you for all of your help so far! Just saying though, i am a sort of shy person, (not crazy shy, but just a little bit), and also, for those of you saying for me to ask him for his number, he would probably think that was creepy. He doesn't know me THAT well you know...lol. He doesn't really know me like a friend even yet, he just kind of sees me around camp. That is part of this dilemma.

to your line "do not give an answer if you are going to tell me to find somebody else". If you're looking for honest advice, don't tell the reader what they should tell you.
But back to the topic, yes 8th graders date 7th graders sometimes! It happened to me when I was younger and a lot of my friends also dated girls that were a year older or a year younger. So don't let age be a factor in this.
You can't "force" someone into liking you, it has to happen naturally. If you're a fun friendly person then you can start a good friendship with him and then it can progress from there.
But also think about IF you dated him and those 11 months when you dont' see him. Can you deal with a longdistance relationship?
So in summary, age is a nonfactor, its always possible to get someone to like you, but I'm not sure that a kid your age (no offense meant) would get any enjoyment out of a relationship where you never see the other person.
Good luck!
Hello, yeah there is nothing wrong with you liking someone younger..your heart cannot control that..First of all be yourself and don't try acting differently to try and make him like you..um if you are to shy to ask for a number in which you can keep in contact you can..ask if he has an email, myspace or whatever..but while being at camp just go ahead and talk to him..:) take of friend with you when you are going to talk to him..that way you dont feel as nervous
Well it's awfully had to get some alone time when you're at camp... but if you do go to camp together, you could try doing some camping stuff with him :P
It's normal for an 8th grader to start this time of their lives ^-^
For starters, Yes, its okay to like someone who is a year younger than you. In fact my boyfriend is a year younger than me =]. And you need to start talking to him in order for things to progress. Good topics might be music or sports, You might not be interested in the same things but its important to be yourself and be friendly no matter what. When you guys get friendly enough ask him for his myspace, facebook, email, cell number for texting anything that can keep you two in contact. Then eventually you guys can hang out outside of camp. Good luck =]
It's ok. He's only younger by a year and plus age is but a number. First of all try being friends with him and the relationship will build from there. Good luck! :D
Does your camp have a directory? If not, do you know where he goes to school? Do you have any mutual friends? If you were 18+, I wouldn't tell you to do this because it would be a little creepy, but you're young:
Hunt him down, and get his email/facebook/something. If you have facebook, do a search for him. I see nothing wrong with you instigating communication.
Good luck.
Its very totally fine for you to like someone 1 year (grade level) younger then you, you could everyonce in a while go up and flirt with him or talk to one of your friends around him so he can get usta you, alot of boys wont talk to the girls they like so hey maybe he secretly likes you, talk to him alot more but DONT BUG HIM and dont let this opportunity slip away he could get a girl or fall for a girl withing weeks if you wait around too long
it's normal. actually my first crush was almost a year older than me (but in the same grade). you are too young to date. wait until your are fifteen or older. be yourself-and treat him as if he was like any of your guys friends-his is how for him to like you. get his number or email or anything that you could keep in touch with him thorough out the year. maybe you could see him outside of camp and he could possible be your boyfriend when you are older.
yess thats normal, and so when your at camp maybe try and get closer to him, tell him that you like him and he also might feel the same way. life's to short to not try. dont be afraid of rejection either there are other guys so its okay. hangout more. and do more things together. if you two have phones get each others numbers and text or call each. good luck!
Hell yes its normal! And also, guys like pretty nice girls, and you being older isn't a big deal at all! If he digs you and you dig him go for it, one last thing, when an older teen girl likes a younger teen guy its a prestigous step for him, he'll love thinking that an older girl likes him. Just be careful though because there's a big differnce in maturity in just one year. I hope this works out for you guys:D -noah
