A much better and quicker alternative would be to fly. You could get a flight from Rome Ciampino Airport (CIA) to Paris Orly Airport (ORY), for as little as £31.99p in November or £25.99p in December. The flight time is 2hrs.
There is one direct train from Rome to Paris. It's the night train that leaves Rome at 6:20 pm and arrives in Paris at 9:16 the next morning (14 hr, 56 min). I prefer this to flying partly because I can leave after work on Friday and spend a full weekend in Paris without having to deal with transportation between cities and airports and going through all the airport overhead. You can sleep through the night on the train and arrive in Paris in the morning ready for sightseeing. You don't have the cost of a hotel for the night while you travel. The standard price is 127 euro for a berth in a 4 bed compartment. However, if you buy tickets in advance, there are various discounts available. The cheapest is the "smart price" which costs 45 euro for the same 4 bed compartment or a 6 bed compartment is 35 euro. The number of tickets at this price is limited, but there are other levels of discount called GO, MOOVE, and SWITCH which are less than the 127 euro normal fare.
There are also day trains, but you need to change in Milan. The standard fare is 184 euro, but there are also discounts for this option. The cheapest smart fare is 119 euro.
ou can find schedules and prices at the trenitalia website. http://www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.jsp?vgnextoi... . However, the winter schedule goes into effect in December and the site is typically updated very late so you may have to wait to see schedules and prices later than the 2nd week of December.
As I live in Rome and I'm going to work as a senior hostess at the Station I can give you all the information you need.
First of all, if you catch the Frecciarossa train to Paris the ticket costs 184,00 € (second class ticket) or 229,00 € (first class ticket) and you're obliged to change the train once you reach Milan, if you take the Artesia train the ticket costs 127,00 € and the journey lasts 14 hours 56 minutes (it's a direct train whitout any other stop). It's an Euronight train so you can travel by night. If I were you I would buy the ticket to this train as it's more comfortable and it's a direct train.
You can buy tickets at the ticket office and don't forget to stamp it before getting on!
Have a nice journey and don't hesitate to write me if you need any other information.
