TX state does NOT have Trial By Written Declaration, but the evidence used to determine your speed still needed to be presented in the court in order to find you guilty!!!

I was able to beat seven (7) California tickets in the past 2 years. All by the method of Trial By Written Declaration (TBWD). You just need to call the court, and ask to contest your ticket by TBWD. You will need to download a form TR-205 and mail out the bail (ticket payment), and explain your reason in TR-205. With TBWD, you don't have to show up at the courthouse. Make sure you mail TR-205 about 2 weeks before your ticket due date.

If you were found guilty, you still have one more chance to appeal which is called Trial de Novo (TDN).

At TDN, you have to show up in court , and if the Officer did not show up, you win. If he show up, do this:

1) Ask the Judge for his TBWD since he is to turn in his TBWD within one month.

2) Use your reasonings from TBWD, and attack/corss examine the Officer.

Very few people hire lawyers to fight traffic citations. There is nothing at all wrong with telling the court that you don't think you were speeding but that you have never had to deal with this before and would like to talk to the city attorney. I suspect that, in Houston, if you show up at the date and time on the ticket, there will be a city attorney there. Consider that, no matter what you think, you were very likely speeding. There are far too many drivers speeding for the police to just make up a story about you or guess about it. You are likely on video, with the radar speed numbers on the recording. But nothing bad is going to happen if you want to talk to the city attorney. You can also take defensive driving to get it dismissed. See the court about that.

Ouch, well you know you shouldnt be speeding but what's done is done. Usually the judge looks at your previous records/tickets and makes a decision based on them. When someone's record is clear the judge will put you on supervision and make you pay the fine. This means that if you get another ticket within 6 months you will come back to court and you will get tougher fines etc. In your case since you do have prior tickets he may be a little harder. You can also consider getting a lawyer to come with you and you may get off easy. The only downside is that they're expensive :( p.s you can also plead not guilty and if the cop is not there to say otherwise or defend himself...your case will be thrown out.

a lot of times the judge has mercy on you the first time and throws it out anyway, and if the cop doesn't show up, well it's dismissed, most cops don't show up. next time ask for the print out from his radar, he can give you that or show you the gun reading on it, good luck, but it's not worth a lawyer, most people don't get lawyers, and most of the time it's thrown out.

if your cop does show up he will probably offer you some thing with only 1 or 2 points off your license. so it will be okay, i promise

Go to the court hearing. Hopefully the officer doesn't show up. If that is the case, you win. If he/she does show they will usually offer to plea you to a lesser charge. Like if you were speeding, they would plead you to failure to obey a sign. It's a lesser fine and usually not as many points on your license.

Get a lawyer, or pay up, maybe you can get it reduced thats what i did they reduced my $450 speeding ticket to a 125 minor violation ticket, way better on my account and my license.

You should look into why you got this ticket. Are you sure you weren't speeding? Did you perhaps miss the sign?

Perhaps you should make sure you drive a little slower next time.

What was the speed limit and how fast did he say you were going?

Did you ask to see the reading on the equipment? If you didn't, then you may as well just pay up.
