I am going to be auditioning for the American Girl musical and I have to sing 16bars of any song. I was thinking about The girl I mean to be from secret garden. Nothing to low, something pretty.
Thanks

"The Girl I Mean To Be" is a pretty good choice - melodic, not too high, not too low (the original Mary actually had a fairly low voice for a young girl). I would avoid "Tomorrow" at all costs; young girls sing it constantly at auditions, and all directors hate it with a passion because of that.
I think what I would do is look for an old, old song - maybe the "titwillow" song from the Mikado, a very pretty song that's actually pretty funny - that directors seldom hear from kids, and that you can ACT the heck out of. In a singing audition, people tend to forget that they are ACTING at the same time as singing.
This might make you stand out from the crowd a little bit.

I Sing the Body Electric from the movie series( It´s not a musical song but it sure is a great song)
how about Castle on a cloud from Les Mis. or maybe from Annie. another one you could try is something like somewhere over the rainbow, it's done to death but a classic. failing that, i know things now from into the woods would work.
You might also try "Tomorrow" from Annie, even if it IS typical. What ever you like, though. Pick something you like, and are comfortable with.
Good Luck!
On my Own from Les Miserables is probably one of the, if not the most beautiful song...in existance. soooo...yeah!
