I recently stoped going to my church after experiencing very hurtful racism. This is the second church where this has happened to me and my children. Has this happened to anyone else? How do I get past this, and find another church where this won't happen again? No rude comments please.
Update:I am bi racial, and so are my children. I understand it exists, and can handel it most of the time but I thought church would have ben a safe haven for us. Maybe I was wrong.

I am sorry this has happened to you! This may be Gods way of leading you from a church that teaches dead religion! Do not be discouraged, there are plenty of churches that will welcome you and your lovely children with open arms. Try a non denominational church! Racism is a sin and the churches are filled with patrons on their merry way to hell! This does not have any reflection on the Lord because you are very much loved and wanted by Him! They are the ones being disobedient to the commandment by Christ that we have love among ourselves! True Christians love one another! Look for a church that will welcome you with open arms! God loves you and your children and so do all true Christians! You will have to try different churches until you find the right one! God bless you, dear sister!
About 6 years ago my mother and I were raising my uncle's 2 youngest daughters. They are half Mexican. They liked church, and we sent them to a Baptist church because they liked it there. One day the little one came home in tears - another kid had called her a dirty Spick (not knowing what that actually meant) and told her she should go back where she came from. (She came from New Mexico - all the kids were born in the states.) She was six, and couldn't understand how people at church, where she was taught that Jesus loves everyone and she was supposed to be like him, could be so hateful. I called the minister - 3 times - and nothing was done. They basically condoned it by saying well, he's just a kid, he doesn't know what he said was bad. Yeah right. So they stopped going to that church and went to the Methodist one instead. (I lived in a very small town - no Catholic church, or they would have gone there because their mom was raised Catholic.) That was when I started losing my faith in the church, period. I think no matter where you go there will always be some form of intolerance. The trick is to show you're above it and be better than the haters. Hope that helps.
Racism, judgment, hypocrisy, and double standards seem to be an integral part of organized religion. However, I have been studying independently about other religions, and the one that seems to have the right idea all the way around is Buddhism.
The type of attitude you have shared is what made me turn away from Christianity. The only miracle I ever witnessed was the miraculous amount of time these "Christians"had to sit around and judge others! So I left religion and in my journey, became very spiritual. My Creator guides my life without judgment, fear of hell, etc.
It was after my "awakening" that I started reading about Buddhism. Their belief system is beautiful, and although I haven't attended a Buddhist Temple, I know a few people who are actively involved and have told me that the way I live my life is an exact parallel to their beliefs.
I wish you the best in your search. I'm sorry that so many people disappoint and turn so many others away from the Christian faith. Pity them for their ignorance and be thankful you aren't like those who have hurt you and your family. May the Creator surround you with angels of love and understanding. Annie
Years ago, I started going to a church. About the 3rd time I was there, the pastor decided to chide the congregation for not saying hello to blacks who passed our church to get to their own church down the street.
He said "They may not be as good as we are, but we could at least say hello."
I did the wrong thing. I just quit going to church altogether. What I should have done was to find out what time services were at a different church.
Get to know the pastor and congregation a bit. You'll soon know if racism is rampant there or not.
You just have to keep searching for the right church for you. My hub and I experienced this as well when attending a church that was a predominantly different race than us. We really liked the Pastor but eventually moved on because of the racism.
I think we are all the same in the spirit but unfortunately everyone doesn't think this way.
I was not going to bring the kind of race into it but others have.
We are white people who were attending a black church and were treated horribly!! It goes both ways.
I know where you are coming from. I'm white and have two bi-racial kids and It's has always been hard for me to find a church. I remember going to some churches where people were not very christian and basically let me know by their attitudes and gestures not to come back to their church. I have also had the same experience with Blacks and the sad part of all of it is, those same people who treated me so bad, do they really think they are going to heaven? I'm trying to find a church right now that is a multi-cultural church. When we get to heaven, there are going to be all colors there. You just have to remind yourself when people act like that, they are not doing God's well. Certain people who go to church and our racist really need to go back and reflect and the lord's words. I'm still looking for a church to go to. I hope you find a good church. Just remember that is not God, that is man acting that way.
I am Catholic. In a place that is about 90% white we have 4 or 5 races of people in our parish and who knows how many different European ethnic groups. I think also the AME churches would not be racist. I visited one a few times and the people did not care what race i am. I know that you can find a place where people know that God made us all. Peace be with you
I am sorry to hear about that. it is the people in the church not the church itself. I am afraid there is rasism every where and I am shocked you have found it in 2 church's you should have spoken to the pastor and Got him to preach on God's love of all equally.
I have never heard of a single case of racism in the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

JK - I don't mean to make light of your situation. I would certainly not want to belong to a church that excluded anyone.
Edit: Fireball - nice example of racism "your own kind".
You must be a person who had children of an inter-racial relationship. People are jerks, and religion doesn't change their prejudices because for one you have not learned that the religions of today ARE the result of RACISM and their doctrines tell the story of it. Why do you think Jesus was hung on a cross...........If you can't find one that isn't full of prejudices, start your OWN........
