i just got a golden retriever today that almost 2 months old, and i have seen many techniques on the internet , the one i am using right now is keeping the puppy in my apartment and i have nice large front yard , so i always take him down to do his business after he eats , drinks or if i see him sniffing around , so is this any good or should i go with another technique ?
Update:i dont know if this is necessary info but i live on the 2nd floor , he is a male . it also takes a lot of time to wait for him to take a leek or a dump

What i did with my male puppy was take him out every 2-3 hours. I'd put your pup on a leash if your front yard is not fenced in and let him sniff around until he goes. When he does go praise him pet him, say good job etc. When he does go is the house or kennel which will happen he is a puppy don't freak out just say NO (in a stearn voice). He will eventually get it as he get's older just stretch how often you bring him out. if he's going to be an inside doge you can train him to ring a bell if he need to go out. It's possible i did it.
Good luck!!!

IMO, Goldens do not belong in apartments, they are a high energy dog.
i potty trained my dog by taking him out to the same spot through the same door and after so long he began sitting at the door as a way of letting me know he need to go and when i let him out he'd go to that one spot
