anyone with helpful hints? my son is turning 2 in april he knows when he goes pee and poop but doesn't understand going to use the toilet how can i get him to understand?
try to get him before he goes and have him sit on the toilet (yes boys can sit on the toilet and go) give him a book give a sticker if he goes to the potty also when you change his wet diaper/pullup sit him on the toilet
When my daughter was 15 months, she would pee while standing near the tub waiting on her bathwater to finish running. I bought a seat, and had her sit on it, and when she had the "accident" in there, then I'd reward her and tell her she did it right! If your son isn't waking up dry in the morning, then toilet training is useless because you'll have to resort to pull-ups at night. When he can make it through the night without an accident, then you know it's time to start trying. During the day, have him wear REAL underwear so he can see what it feels like to make the mess... I had a 4 day weekend, and my daughter was completely trained by the end of the 3rd day. Good luck with it!
i have a 3 year old. i would start letting him follow you/ spouse? into the bathroom when you go to let him know that everyone does it and explaining that you're going potty like a big person. that he can be big too, if he started going then introduce the big boy pants. and start letting him wear the underwear over the pullup and tell him he's a big boy if he goes in the potty and try to go every 30-45 minutes until it becomes a habit. there are many different ways to do this. try rewards, 2-5 min time-outs with the accident on (some kids respond to this dirty feeling and start going). then some kids like reading when they sit on the potty. i started my son sitting until he got the hang of it then he started standing up. just be careful with the standing up.

Has he ever seen you going to the toilet or do you just shut the door. Children learn from their parents let him come in the bathroom with you.
