My son is 18 months. I bought him a potty but i can only get him to use it if i wake him up in the mornings and sit him on it. he'd rather use it as a footstool to reach the sink to brush his teeth, lol. He often takes his diaper off and recently ive noticed scratches on his bottom i guess from him scratching from being bothered by the wetness. I dont know if he is really ready and if so, anyone have some tips??

He's probably not ready, but you might try buying him super hero or cartoon character underwear as incentive to use the potty instead of wetting his pants. Little boys are often just too busy to be bothered with potty training, or so it seems. He'll probably surprise you one day and just start going by himself, but keep offering to take him and praise him when he is successful.
All my kids and grandkids found other uses for their potty chairs rather than using them to go potty.....lol........ I don't remember any of them using it more than once or twice. Good luck!
I tried starting when my son was about 18 months, but he just didn't care. He ended up not being completely potty trained until he was 3 1/2. He didn't care about being in wet diapers, and he had a hard time letting go of his diapers.
We tried stickers, just letting him be naked, letting him pee his pants in underwear, nothing worked.
We decided to stop worrying about it (easier said than done) and we told him that when he was ready to give up diapers we would have a "big boy underpants party." A few days later he told us he was ready. We went to the toy store and bought him a big boy present and got him a cake and candles. We made up a song and let him blow out candles. He has been fine ever since.
He may not be ready yet. But, if you are home all day with him, and don't mind the mess, I would put him in underwear. I started my kids in plain underwear. I bought cartoon character underwear that they got to pick out. If they went all day without an accident, I'd let them wear the fun undies. But would tell them "You can't pee pee on Dora" or whoever. This worked for me. If he's not ready, he won't go on the potty all the time. It never hurts to go back to diapers and wait a while before you try again.
The joys of potty coaching! My son's pediatrician encouraged that you simply wait till practically three years historic to begin potty coaching boys. Girls have a tendency to begin a bit faster, round two one million/two or so. My son is now four one million/two, and potty coaching used to be rather the struggle. He has had plenty of constipation disorders and withholding disorders that he needed to see a gastroenterologist for, which not on time potty coaching beyond the pediatrician's encouraged age of three. We used a present process within the opening. I had a box of mini M&M's. Each time he went pee at the potty he received one million, and every time he went poo he received two. (The rationale we gave him two for going poo is considering the fact that that is wherein our struggle used to be customarily because of his constipation and withholding disorders). He went to a babysitter in the course of the day, and she or he wasn't quite up for doing the entire sweet factor, so he might get little stickers there at any time when that he went potty. Another giant incentive for him used to be that preschool wasn't too off in his long term, however we might inform him that he needed to be going to the toilet at the potty and now not in having injuries if he desired to move. So that quite helped matters. Also, convey a laugh matters in the toilet. With my son, we might convey books or his magnadoodle in there. We discovered that generally we simply needed to get him to chill out in order that he would move. As a guardian, you recognize the endurance children have may be very small, so while they're simply sitting there attempting and don't have anything else to recognition on, they are able to get annoyed rather effortlessly. It is helping to place their awareness someplace else. Another idea is to simply make a quite giant deal everytime that he is going. Unfortunately, there is no point in time on how lengthy potty traning can take. Each little one is one of a kind, and generally robust willed kids can take a bit longer. My son nonetheless has injuries occassionally, however they just look to arise at house. He has under no circumstances had an coincidence at preschool or out in public. We nonetheless have got to remind that its time to check out an move to the toilet. Kids simply get so sidetracked while they're gambling or doing different routine. I recognize that once we have been first commencing out, we might have him try to move to the toilet each and every hour or two. Even if he did not continuously move, he might no less than take a look at. Hope this information is helping.
He may feel uncomfortable due to wetness. Even though the best age to start potty train is at 2 (especially boys a little bit slower) , you can start to watch for signs of his readiness.
