i am under 18 and was speeding 53 at a 35 zone. the officer said my record or whatever was clean and so instead of giving me a speeding ticket he gave me an impeding traffic ticket. also my insurance paper was old but i do have the new papers and my car was insured during the time, but under my mom's name. He said that i should just show the court new papers of insurance, and the fee for not having a updated insurance will be waived. it happened in ferndale, michigan.
how much fine am i looking at and did the officer actually do me a favor? should i challenge to see if he shows up in court or not or what should i do besides paying the fine, if i can do anything?
thanxx
Update:if i challenge the impeding traffic to a speeding traffic will it go on my record?
how can my record stay clean in this matter? what actions should i take?
Update 3:how much is the fine?

He gave you a big play. Be thankful.
Assuming you reside in a large metropolitan region, impeding traffic by interpretation means that he was caught in the intersection during a light change. Sometimes this is unavoidable as traffic ahead had stopped preventing any further forward progress on the part of your son.... unfortunately, the traffic enforcement officer won't see it this way. I do believe it is a stiff fine in NYC and a few points on the license. Another scenario might be that he was standing or temporarily parked on a busy street that did not allow parking at that hour of the day due to the amount of traffic, hence his impeding of the flow of traffic. That's the best I can deduce from the question, hope it helps and I truly believe he won't make that mistake again.
Lucky break for speeding, hope you learn something from it cause you are now on the record and your insurance will go up. Slow it down. 35 is a bit fast in a neighborhood, 53 is way to fast even in a residential section. General rule is go with the flow and a few mph under or over is not exactly impeding traffic. Shut up and pull out your wallet.
Do yourself a favor.....go to court, man-up and take responsibility for your actions, show them the valid insurance proof, pay your fine and then learn to obey traffic laws.
And yes, the officer did you a BIG favor...learn from it. Speed limits are there for a reason - not to just pi** you off. When you speed like you did, you put yourself, other drivers, pedestrians and children in danger.
You are WAY to young to have such disregard for the traffic laws.
If you were my kid, I would take away your drivers license and the car keys and you wouldn't drive again for a LONG time.
Impeding traffic is very much the opposite of speeding.
If you were stopped for speeding then you should have gotten a speeding ticket.
If you want to challenge it in court I think you have a very good chance of beating it.
Flying down Woodward Avenue? My dad used to do 70 down that road.
(Used to live in Ferndale.)
I bet the fine is low if you have all the paperwork in order. You can challange it but I know most officers have there court days set so they have all their cases the same day
He actually should have given you the ticket for negligent driving, and you were much over the speed limit. bettyk
He cut you a break? And now you want to beat it??.
If you try to beat it and I was that cop, there is asbsolutely no FXXXXXG way i would EVER cut you a break again.
And don't give me the line that he'd be violating your rights.
