I got home last night and my desktop computer won't even turn on... That is, I push the button in the front and the green ring indicating that the power is on comes on and the orange "thinking" light comes on solid, but it will not activate the keyboard or the monitor. The fans kick on, but I cannot open the CD-ROM or DVD drives and the screen remains in stand-by mode.
The only thing I did out of the ordinary yesterday was take a friend's MP4 player home and put some music on it for him. I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but it is a very cheap one from China, and I know there was that problem a year or so ago with those digital picture frames from China....... Maybe related? I don't know.
Any help would be appreciated!
PS - I cannot download any sort of virus protection or anything considering my PC won't even turn on!

dont panic dude.. just check out ur video card and memory card or even the monitor cable... be sure that all hardware connect firmly... hope it may help to your pc...
It may not be a virus. It sounds like that one of the electronic components inside the PC might be malfunctioning. It could be anything, it could be the power supply, the a capacitor on the motherboard, a blown processor fan (at least the pc should start for a little while until it over heats-then the processor could be fried). You might have to take your system to a quality pc repair facility.
Wish you the best.
I could be a bad power supply or fried mother board. But do not think it is virus related.
you need to buy a disk that restars your computer...if that does not work is done
