I am going from Rome to Florence and I want to visit the Tuscan region. what is the best way to move around? Should I buy a train ticket from Rome to Florence and then buy train or bus tickets to go around Tuscany or should I buy a pass for Italy trains so that it will give me access to all the trains? Which one is more affordable? I appreciate your input.

The best way is using regional trains, they are efficient and very cheap. There are from Rome to Florence (16.55 euros from Roma Tiburtina, 16.95 from Roma Termini), and from Florence to cities like Pisa, Lucca, Siena, Arezzo, Pistoia... You have just to buy the tickets at the station (at vending machines too, they are very easy to use) and validate them at the little yellow machines before starting.
i suggest you travelling from rome to florence by train and then rent a car. If you want to travel around tuscany and see the wonderful and characteristic landscapes you need a car! You will enjoy your travel to the fullest!
