Hi! I just got a 6 week old husky puppy less than 24 hrs ago. Prior to getting him, I read loads on stuff on how to train Siberian Huskys. I understand I have to show him who is boss and all that. But I could use tips on potty training, crate training, and "obedience classes"
Also, I bought puppy tooth paste and brush. I asked the worker at the local Petco when to start brushing his teeth, she said wait until he is around 10 weeks old. But what do you guys think ?
And he also pooped inside his crate yesterday and I had to give him a bath because he stepped in it. Is it too early to give baths? Or is it good if I start now.
Another thing is, at night, when he's supposed to be sleeping in his crate, he is moaning or whining, I'm not exactly sure what to call it. Can someone explain that to me ?
And is this good potty training strategy? Where 15 mins after he eats I take him outside, and if he pees or poops outside then I hit the clicker clacker thing twice and give him a treat.
And about food scheduling: is 4 times a day good? I can't seem to get schedule evenly spaced out for food. Recommended times for food ?

When you are crate training a puppy, the easiest thing to do is stick to a "potty schedule." When you get the pup out of the crate, take him out and treat him accordingly. Positive reinforcement is best. Try crating him for 2 hours about an hour and a half to 2 hours after he eats and has went to the bathroom and alternate him in and out at 2 hour increments. Take him out 5-10 minutes after he eats. (For a pup his size 3/4 of a cup twice a day should be plenty. No more than 2 cups per day. And make sure it's puppy food.) Take him straight out and if he doesn't go then put him back in the kennel for another 15-30 minutes so he gets into the habit of going right out of the kennel. He's only 6 weeks old, so accidents are inevitable. A good way to avoid crate accidents is to give the puppy no room to potty in one place and sleep in another. A divider in the kennel will solve this problem. It may seem uncomfortable to the puppy, but it's extremely effective because the puppy will not waste where he sleeps. However, if you let the puppy get used to sleeping in the waste, this technique will be less effective. If he has an accident on the floor, simply take the waste. with the pup, and show him where it goes. He won't get it right off, but the more persistent you are with his training, the faster he will learn where and where not to potty. As far as obedience classes, check with your local PetCo or PetSmart to attend training classes and seminars. Most personal pet trainers can teach your pet potty training and obedience training within a two week period. The trainers also teach you the commands and give you proper instruction on maintaining their obedience. I would say about 8-10 months old is when you should start to brush their teeth. Puppy teeth normally fall out from 5-6 months old and normally don't build up enough tartar or anything to cause any health problems whatsoever. And it will only help their breath half a day at best. If you just wanted to brush the puppy's teeth, I would take the Petco Associate's advice. It's okay to give baths, just don't use a shampoo that is going to be rough on his sensitive skin. It's also normal for the puppy to whine at night, especially since he's new to you. He's used to having his mom, brothers, and sisters to keep him warm and cozy at night. He doesn't have that anymore so he experiences a bit of separation anxiety. This should go away within a week or two.

8am - Wake up: outside
- Eat: outside
10am - Kennel
12pm - Outside
2pm - Kennel
4pm - Outside
6pm - Feed and immediately kennel
8pm - Outside
10pm - Overnight Kennel
Make sure to pick up your pup's food so they only eat when you feed them. GOOD LUCK!

Explore and see what information people can give you. If you go on twice a day walks, you'd be surprised how many people walking dogs you can chat with and find information!
OK. You can also start by treats/toys. For toys, keep a secret selection of different-flavored bones somewhere, and when the dogs do something well, give them a bone. For treats you do the same. I would probably stick with the bones, because the dogs can get overweight with too many treats. So when your dog is calm and just kind of walking around, pat his behind a little and say loud and clearly, "Sit!" Not roughly, just kind of hold the word like your singing. Your voice should be effective, but sweet. If the dog doesn't automaticlly sit, that's okay. Just try it again until he does. Once your dog sits, you give him whatever the prize is.
