Hi, I only went to a catholic church when I was growing up so I dont know how other churches work.... Is it true that a person has to PAY to be a "member" of the a church? Whats the deal with being a member...does it give a VIP pass to heaven? how much the average family "pay" to become a member? Any other details you want to add?

i have gone to many churches. (im catholic also) i play music and have been invited to do so there.
there is no "pay to pray" at any church ive ever been to. however, i would offer that many churches rely on your offerings to help the needy and pay the bills. offer what you can. as the widow did (vs the rich man)
It depends on the church. Large evangelical churches don't require you to pay anything only to go through some emotional frenzy and accept Christ and they consider you a member. My Baptist church were biblical doctrine and the full gospel is preached requires that we observe a change or "fruits of the spirit" in your life and we want to be sure your were preached the true gospel and not a watered down version before we can call you a brother in Christ. We do not charge money. You cannot buy salvation. We try to avoid what happens in most large evangelical churches that are filled with thousands of so called believers that said a "prayer" one day and continue to live their lives the way the world does. Why do you think most people look at these large churches and then at themselves and see no difference. This is sad and outrages. Paul would never have called these so called believers brothers
There is no "pay" to attend. The Word requires you tithe. Look that up. And give offerings. Someone has to pay for the electricity, water and heat. If you attend, you can do your share. The Catholic parishes in my area are closing because they can't find enough people to attend and give offerings and the Vatican is not helping them. If they can't support themselves, they close their doors.
And contrary to popular opinion expressed herein by some, large evangelical churches don't "work" you up into a frenzy and cause you to give all your money. I belong to a congregation of 10,000 and we don't go into any frenzies and shake money out of people's pockets. You decide to accept salvation, it's a free gift of the Lord. You have to complete new members training. You have to continue to educate yourself in the Word and act accordingly. Saying yes to Jesus is a serious encounter, not some crazed emotional outburst. It's the same as any other place of worship of the true and living God: bring the tithe into his house to take care of it and he will make provisions for you.
But you can go on to glory and never tithe or give offerings, they say. I feel that's like living in someone's home and never bringing anything into it to provide for your lodging.
Any church that you have to sacrafice something, pay for membership, have instruments, false teaching which can not be prove by script, goes by the manmade law which is not written in script to do so..I can go on and on with this list..you are not trully in the right Church and saved for real. Most likely living a religious lie and wasting your time on Earth before you die to be judge whether you go to Heaven or hell. I invite you to visit any "Church of Christ" congregation and let me know of your experience (if you can) at your own time. Can't find any Church of Christ?..yellowpages.com is a good internet resource to find some near you. Any questions or comments, I can be contacted on im's or emails. :-)
A church will not require you to "pay" anything. However, tithing is an act of spiritual worship. It is part of the responsibility of all believers to support the church in its ministries, pay for utilities, salaries, etc.....
Do you think its all just free?
Someone has to pony up to keep it all functioning.
No, you don't have to pay to be a member.
Religion=Big Business
No, you don't HAVE to pay to be a Christian (of any denomination), but you are expected to donate at least something every now and again.
If you pay to pray, stay away.
To be a member you must sleep with "zombie jesus".
