Which place is better for a week holiday?
I have been to Bangkok, but want to go back.
I haven't been to HCMC, but I have heard good things.
I would like to see Ha Long bay while in Vietnam, but don't know if I have enough time. If I go to Bangkok, I want to check out the Phi Phi islands.
Which place is funner, cheaper, friendlier, has the best food and is the most modern?

If you go to Hanoi, rather than HCMC, Ha Long Bay is an easy day trip / overnight / multi-day visit. HCMC is at the other end of the country.
I prefer Hanoi to Bangkok. I have visited BKK numerous times, but lived in Hanoi for 4 too short years! I just came back from a week in HN, and a couple of days visiting friends in HCMC and Phan Rang. My preference is HN!
