After a good work out. Say an hour long of a work out. Will chugging a couple of raw eggs out of a cup really help build muscle? And is it healthy for you?!?!
Eggs are definitely very good for you. They are good sources of:
-Vitamins and nutrients
-High-quality protein
-Omega-3 Fatty Acids
-Good cholesterol
But to answer your question, chugging them down isn't necessarily a bad for you. Every 1 egg in a ten thousand will be salmonella infested, so it's a bit of a risk. However, you can eliminate the risk AND receive their great benefits just by cooking them.
I would recommend cooking about 2-3 eggs a day for breakfast instead of after the workout because it'll give you the energy early in the day to get you started. I'm not exactly sure as to what's different between eating them early in the day or after your workout, but I personally love them with a couple of bacon strips and cereal.
You probably saw how Rocky chugged those eggs down and thought, 'Rocky did it and look how strong he is'. If you want to, go ahead, but cooked eggs taste better and don't have the risk of contracting salmonella.
After a hard workout, what your body needs is electrolytes and glucose, and you can't find that in eggs. I would worry that the raw eggs may be contaminated by Salmonella. I know an entire family that came down with Salmonella from eating undercooked eggs and they were so sick they couldn't even leave the house to go to the doctor. Eggs are an excellent source of protein and other nutrients, but they should be cooked first, and if you have a cholesterol problem, eliminate most if not all of the yolks.
