You could be reading the signs wrong. Maybe he's not flirting and just being very friendly. But what's important is how you feel about him. Do you like him? If so you should go for it and see what happens. A lot of couples, once they've broken up, still remain friends so I'm sure you guys will if that happens, especially since you've been friends for so long. A friend like that doesn't go away easily.
