That's a big stretch between a Pomeranian and a Golden Retriever. You would need to research how to introduce your cat to the dog and vice versa, it's a long process and you want to make sure the introductions go smoothly or you could end up with a cat chasing dog and a very unhappy cat. You should research the different breeds of dogs to find one that fits with your personality and lifestyle. If you are laid back couch potato, or you can't give the dog a lot of exercise then you definately wouldn't want a high energy dog like a Golden Retriever, those dogs are high energy and high maintenance, they need to be able to get a lot of exercise. Whereas a Pom wouldn't require that much exercise in order to keep it happy. If you've never had a dog they are a lot of work, especially a puppy as you would have to house break it and also train it to be a good canine citizen, no one likes a dog that barks constantly, bites people, chews everything in your house or craps everywhere. They aren't like cats, they require serious amount of work, training and exercise. Make sure you know what you're up against before going out and getting a dog, that's how most dogs end up in the pound, the people that got the dog didn't realize just how much work it would be or they didn't go about training properly and the dog basically ruled the house and everyone in it.
Dog food is expensive if you buy good nutritious dog food that is only purchased from a pet supply store, rather than the crap sold in Supermarkets. The average annual expense is about $1,000.00 per year and that includes toys, bedding, food, vet bills and other miscellaeous things that you'll end up buying.
If you're looking for a dog then go to petfinder.com and search for dogs in your area, it includes puppies and rescue dogs looking for a good home.
Good Luck
Those are two very different breeds. You should research which will fit into your lifestyle better. Don't get a golden if you don't plan on doing a lot of exercising the dog, and a lot of training. Don't get a Pom if you want a jogging partner. Don't get either if you don't like grooming dogs and vacuuming up hair. You should take a better look at the two breeds and your lifestyle to decide what would work for you.
I find that it is easier to get cats to adapt to having dogs around if the pup is introduced young. Cats seem to be less threatened by puppies than grown dogs, and generally the cats teach the dog how they want it to act. If you're getting an adult dog, make sure it is good with cats. If it wasn't raised with cats, it likely isn't.
Annual budget for a dog is around $1000-2000 depending on how much training you do. My budget is larger because I compete in agility regularly and spend a lot of time training and feed my dogs very well. If you want a really good food you could spend up to $35 for a 8lb bag of food. Cheap ones run for significantly less, but in general you get what you pay for. Most pet dog food is around $20 (usually slightly less).
Well all just depends on you're life style. A golden retriever would probably need a yard to run. A pomeranian could do with only going out for the potty and a walk once a day.
My Teacup yorkie gets along fine with the cats (3 cats) he'll follow them around and just act like there another puppy friend! My beagle chased the cats for almost 2 years before we finally tought her not to. Now she is about 5 and hasn't chased the cats in years!
As to were to get a pup/dog you could find a local animal shelter. The ASPCA is in your area, that has tons of rescued dogs! 212- 410-0087.
Well the question is,will your 5 year old cat like the dog? LOL But if you have a cat,I would suggest the pomaranian because he will be less threatening to your kitty, however, there still may be problems.I suggest only allowing them to be around each other a very short time for awhile, until they get used to each other, when you see theres less hissing, then you can introduce more together time with them. Also, you should get a puppy instead of a grown dog,a puppy is less likely to attack your cat,but your cat will probably attack first if it isnt used to being around a canine. You will spend a lot less on food if you get a pom because of course they are smaller, and have smaller stomachs.I would say if you get a pom and get the good kind of food (not store brand) you probably wont spend anymore than about 50 dollars a month on bagged dry food,if that much. Not considering treats or anything like that.Good luck!!
I don't know much about Pomeranians but this. They bark A LOT! My neighbors have one and it barks at everything! I would say get a Golden Retriever. They are the best type of dog, so is said by the Kennel Club. They adapt great with other animals and people. They might be harder to take care of because of their long fur but they make great and loyal friends and will adapt perfectly with your family. They are hunting dogs though so they need a decent amount of exercise. Puppies will also be playful which means it might want to play with your cat ( tackling, chasing, etc. )
You should do research on both breeds and pick the one that best suits your lifestyle. The two breeds you mentioned are as different as day is to night. So is the amount of money it will cost to feed each breed....a Pom is a small breed whereas a Goldie is large - obviously it would cost considerably more to feed the Goldie. Don't get a dog just because it's cute - all dogs are cute, get one that will fit your lifestyle. In other words, don't get a laid back breed if you're highly active and would like to take your dog on your morning jog....and don't get one that would rather run laps than sit in front of the tv all day if that's more your style.
Whether it will like your cat or not depends on the dog you choose. Will your cat like the dog? As for food, it depends on what kind you buy, and how much the dog eats. Sorry, but these are hard questions to answer, since it all depends on the dog you choose.
*First, You should NOT be having sex if you are not fully loaded. You have to be ****** and ready to blow, or otherwise they will think that you are not able to hold up! If you are going up and down during sex, then obviously your girlfriend is not turning you on, and she needs to do some "other things" to get the party started. I dont care how big you are and how small she is, put them knees on a pillow and tell her to " bend over and let me see that full moon". Jack that booty up in the air and wave it like you just dont care, and put it on her man!!! I stand on the floor all the time, common practice. You can try both of yall laying on the bed and sliding it in from the backdoor that way. There is always many methods to madness! I have spoken! EZ
stick with the cat. If you want to have a social life. dogs take a lot of care and time
First year costs will be well over $2,000, not counting the dog itself.
Yearly maintenance will be $500-$1,000 for food, vet bills, grooming, etc.
If you're not sure, you probably shouldn't get one.
