My flowerhorn is in a 55 gallon with blue gravel and its 80 degrees. He is two inches about two months old. I feed him meat flakes I got from my local fish store. And he keeps putting a piece of gravel in his mouth then he spits it out and It seems like he only does it at night. Anyone know why?

Fish are notorious for picking up things that fits in their mouth, small stones are no exception. Just make sure you don't have any sharp stones. These will seriously hurt your fish. Most people recommend keeping larger stones with goldfish so they don't pick it up.
Interestingly, this is also the reason you can't keep small fish with fish. They will pick them up in their mouth and well, won't spit them out.
He is either is begging for food or just playing. With smart fish like flowerhorns you never know really.
