Hi,
My passport expired and I got an emergency travel document. Problem might be that I don`t have direct flight. I don`t need to stay in the country of transit since my connecting flight is only 1h our later than my arrival. Will they let me in the airplane? Is it just better that I tell them I lost my passport and don`t tell them all this story. Or since passport expired only few days ago maybe they wont even ask for this document?
Update:Edit: Thank you for so detailed answer. Short update : So I am going back to my own country. Emergency travel document is issued by my own country and it is issued in cases when you can not (for any reason) obtain the new passport and current passport is missing (stolen lost) or invalid. In my case I have valid document for entering my own country problem was transit. Since connecting airport is Munich I guess it wont be problem since it is one of the biggest in Europe, so it must have sterile zone.

Since you don't mention your nationality or which countries you are traveling to, it's impossible to give you specific information.
In general, the airline will not allow you to board the plane at the originating airport if you lack the required entry documentation for your destinations. This is usually a valid passport (an expired one is not accepted) when traveling to a foreing country. You might also need a visa. I've worked in the travel industry for over 20 years and I've never heard of an "emergency travel document". (I'm in the US. Is this a document issued by another country?) I strongly suggest that you contact the embassy of the country you are visiting to ensure that this "emergency document" is acceptable. Otherwise, your trip will be over before it starts.
Your transit question also depends on which country it is. If your connecting airport has a transit lounge (a sterile area where you can change planes without clearing Customs and Immigration), then you don't need any special documentation. If you have to stay, then you need whatever documents are required for someone who is entering the country as a visitor. If it's just a passport, and you already have one for your final destination, then you won't have a problem.
