I have been sick and I do have stage 2 CKD...but a BUN level of 74. Could that be form a stomach bug I had this week??
Update:I have had the stomach bug and I had to get my labs drawn to make sure everything was alright(other health issues), they were checking for other levels as well. My BUN level came back at 74. My doc said it may be because of dehydration. I have to go back on Monday to have it checked again. Could that be that high from dehydration??

You don't give much information. But I'll try to help anyway.
Stage 2 CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) is pretty mild. The table below puts it in perspective. A GFR of 60 - 89 is very common, especially in the elderly, or those with some hypertension or diabletes
Stages of Chronic Kidney Disease:
Stage / Description / (GFR* in mL/min/1.73m^2)
--------------------------------------------------------------
1 Slight kidney damage with normal or increased filtration (> 900
2 Mild decrease in kidney function (60-89)
3 Moderate decrease in kidney function (30-59)
4 Severe decrease in kidney function (15-29)
5 Kidney failure requiring dialysis or transplantation (< 15)
*GFR is glomerular filtration rate, a measurement of the kidney's function.
The BUN (blood urea nitrogen) is best interpreted concomitantly with the creatinine. 74 is pretty high, but not an emergency. My guess is that your creatinine is 2.5 or less, in which case you have what is called prerenal azotemia, and it is probaby due to being a little dehdrated. In this case, sodium and fluids would help. It is also seen in heart and liver failure, something that makes more sense if you are a 60 year old smoker than if you are a 25 year old diabetic. In that case, sodium and fluids would make it worse. That's what I meant about not giving enough information. If your creatinine is much higher, like 6.0, then you probably have a problem with your kidney.
Since you know your BUN, somebody is monitoring it for you. You need to ask that somebody. But, yes, your BUN elevation could be from a nonthreatening and temporary disturbance related to your recent stomach bug, especially if you have been vomiting and/or had diarrhea, both of which can contribute to dehydration. That's where my money is.
