I have never heard of this aspect and have not really done any research on Wu Style Tai Chi, but there is a Master in Upstate New York that can probably be of help, if this is something that is widespread through all the lineages of Wu Family.
His name is Stephen Hwa.
Also, do not forget that there are 2 different styles called Wu from two different Masters. So explore both lineages.
Grandmaster Maasaki Hatsumi of Togakure Ryu is the master of nine separate and relatively unrelated ryus. I don't think your brother should be concerned about one affecting the other. If anything the skills would complement and enhance each other. As an analogy, that would be like telling a police officer that wielding a firearm will adversely affect their hand-to-hand combat skills or telling an engineer that having a hobby in origami will screw up his or her designs.
