Going to Vietnam for 4 or 5 nights. Trying to weigh up whether to go to Hanoi or HCMC. I personally enjoy markets, cultural aspects and food and both seem great to me.
What would your preferance be? Pros and cons of both cities? Etc. Budget is not a problem and not prepared to travel to both, however - wouldn't mind staying a night (or two) in Phu Quoc (if we go travel to HCMC), or Halong Bay (if we travel to Hanoi).
Thank-you!

Hanoi for more traditional, culture, accient feel.HCMC for more advance, city feel.
One day is not nearly enough for either, but I agree with rainvirus. Hanoi is magnificent for a visit. If you start at Ho Tay (West Lake) you can make your way south passing the Ho Chi minh tomb and museum area, the Old Quarter, the Long Dien bridge (worth crossing or going half way across- time permitting), French Quarter and Lenin Park areas.
Hanoi:
In our opinion, the main attractions here are: 1/the Temple of Literature; 2/the Old Quarters; 3/Sword Lake and Ngoc Son temple; 4/West Lake and Tran Quoc Pagoda; 5/Ho Chi Minh complex (Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Ho Chi Minh Museum, his house-on-stilt; One Pillar Pagoda, the President Palace) ; 6/the Museum of Ethnology; 7/the Museum of Hoa Lo Prison (Hanoi Hilton).
Because you have just one day, the suggested itinerary is: no.1, no.7 in the morning and no.2 in the afternoon. Or you can try: no.4 in the morning and no.5 in the afternoon.
HCMC:
This is the modern face of Viet Nam. You can use VietNam Dong or the US Dollars here. Many place to get cheap stuff a.k.a fake. HAha. One thing, here you can feel the atmosphere of living in Communist country, but a much safer than North Korea. Ahhaha
Hanoi for extra classic, way of existence, accient experience.HCMC for extra advance, city experience. sooner or later isn't almost adequate for the two, yet I trust rainvirus. Hanoi is strategies-blowing for a circulate to. in case you start up at Ho Tay (West Lake) you will be able to make your way south passing the Ho Chi minh tomb and museum section, the previous Quarter, the long Dien bridge (properly worth crossing or going a million/2 way for the duration of- time allowing), French Quarter and Lenin Park areas. Hanoi: In our opinion, the main factors of interest indexed here are: a million/the Temple of Literature; 2/the previous Quarters; 3/Sword Lake and Ngoc Son temple; 4/West Lake and Tran Quoc Pagoda; 5/Ho Chi Minh complicated (Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Ho Chi Minh Museum, his domicile-on-stilt; One Pillar Pagoda, the President Palace) ; 6/the Museum of Ethnology; 7/the Museum of Hoa Lo reformatory (Hanoi Hilton). for the reason which you have purely sooner or later, the reported itinerary is: no.a million, no.7 in the morning and no.2 in the afternoon. or you could try: no.4 in the morning and no.5 in the afternoon. HCMC: it is the sought after face of Viet Nam. you ought to use VietNam Dong or the U. S. money here. Many place to get low priced stuff a.ok.a faux. HAha. one element, here you could experience the ambience of residing in Communist usa, yet a lots safer than North Korea. Ahhaha
to me i would prefer going to hcmc because well i lived there and its pretty much amazing i have to say. expecially the center of saigon but if your looking for more of a historical route for vacation then i would go with hanoi, but hcmc is pretty amazing tall skyscrapers and such im acatually going back in junne or july so im pretty excited but i think 4 or 5 days wont be enough you would want to stay longer
I'm Vietnamese and i personally think you should go to Hue or HCMC. Hue has beautiful sights, old but beautiful while HCMC is modern and has the historical Cu Chi tunnels (which used in Vietnam War). Ha Noi is the capital but it totally sucks
If you want to travel on Vietnam, I think you should go to Danang City, the best City of my country.
They have old street, many pagoda and nice beach.
