I am going to Istanbul this summer to prepare for a move I am making in November. I recently learned of traveling by cargo ship. It is an experience I would enjoy...much more than flying. I was wondering if anyone knew of any cargo/freight ships that go from New York, Philadelphia, Boston, or Newark to Istanbul (or any surrounding cities not too far from Istanbul). I am having trouble looking up myself...but I am terrible at internet searching. haha
Thank you for any help you can give me!
Update:I put it under cruise cause that was the best available category...but I do not want a cruise. I am not looking for a luxury experience. Thanks!

You can use this site to browse through the voyages or you can google cargo cruises and browse through other sites. The link that I provided didn't have any to Turkey, but most of them went to Italy. So, if you would want to visit Italy before you went to Turkey, there are many cargo cruises on this site. Maybe you could take a train or bus to Turkey from Italy.

Strand Travel LTD has routes from Philadelphia to Antwerp, takes about 12 days and costs approximately $1500. From Antwerp, check out Grimaldi Lines for transportation to the Med. Otherwise, there are lines out of California to the Far East and through the Suez to Naples. They are expensive and take a month or longer. Grimaldi also offers service from Brazil to the Med.
