Do you believe its possible? I have had some friends think so and some not.. one said that he believes its possible because you can look at the stars that are light years away
I dont think its possible. I think it if was, someone would have already travelled back to our time, or before, where we would have evidence of someone from the future being in the past.
Stars are very bright. Some of the them burn themselves out, and some of them, by the time you see them, dont actually exist anymore because by the time their light comes to our eyes, it has burned out already. The light has travelled light years away to what we see today.
The sun is 93 million miles away. Is that time travel?
Time travel could be possible but not in the manner that people might think. There are several barriers to overcome, the most important of which are the laws of physics.
Time and distance are relative to one another but right now, only distance can be shortened. The speed of light ( the time it takes for light to travel from one point to the next) is the fastest measurement we have. Find a faster measurement, find a way to break the laws of physics and travel in that measurement, and you will be able to bend time...ergo time travel.
Like looking through a telescope at something in the distance. With the naked eye it takes a measurable amount of time to see it. Use a telescope and you can see it much closer thereby seeing it faster. Think about this, out in space, looking at a star that is 1 trillion light years away, what are you seeing? You are not seeing the star as it sits right now at this very nanosecond, you are seeing it as it was eons ago. As we shorten the distance to that star, the time it takes for you to see it shortens.
Time travel, except in the tiniest and weirdest of quantum contexts, is impossible. Fanciful ideas that we might be able to use this or that exotic kind of physics are just idle speculation. The only thing we can do with time is move forward in it, but possibly at different rates, relative to the observers' perceptions.
This is not like when people said we could never break the sound barrier or build heavier than air flying machines. They were wrong, and there were no physical laws preventing these things. The physics of our Universe prevents things like time travel or faster-than-light speeds.
To answer Tharun, theoretically if you travel FASTER than light (impossible), you go back in time. But the faster you go, the slower time goes, so if you travel closer and closer to the speed of light (limited only by engineering), more time will pass than you experience, so you CAN travel unusually fast into the future.
It is known that gravity can distort the space time continuem. It is also known that gravity can bend light. There is evidence to suggest that if you can bend light into a helix then you can distort the time inside the helix. There are currently experiments going on in the U.S.A to try and achieve this and it is beleived by the experts that if it is possible this is how it will be achieved.
It will be a reality one day but not in our generation,, Science has now figured out how to transport atoms from one spot in time to another, kind of like a worm hole, but this technolgy will be many hundreds of years before it woud happen in my opinion,, My opinion dont count I know but the science books dont lie either,,
I will go and do a search and try and find the article of science transporting atoms,, Back soon

But getting back would be a dilemma.

You travel into the future every day, at the rate of one minute per minute.
i have heard that travelling more than speed of light sends us into the future although time is the fourth dimension which restricts us
That is impossible there is no such thing like that. Even science has no basis for that, even God created this world without any such thing like that
i personally dont think its possible. why? having regrets about something?
