Okay so i wanna get a 2007 drz400sm(supermoto) and im about to go to basic for the Navy. Not sure where im going or where ill be deployed to, im guessing Cali? Anyways im on the Wisconsin Iowa border and if i get this bike, could i rely on this bike to get me all the way to Cali with the correct gearing setup? Itd be a hell of an experience thats why i want to. Thanks and i appreciate any experiences from DRZ riders that have riden really far.

I owned a DRZ for a few years. Yes, changing the sprocket(s) to lower the RPM's is the first thing I'd do since these bikes lack a 6th gear. These are very reliable motorcycles. They've been around for 12 years and the minor bugs were ironed out before Suzuki started making the SM version. There is an avid DRZ400SM rider on youtube who's really put a ton of miles on his both locally and on long trips. He's known as the "gardensnake". http://www.youtube.com/user/TheGardenSnake
