what is the best way for me to study spanish?
I am a freshman in high school (i'm pretty sure age affects how you learn a language). I know that it is a lot of memorization, but I feel like rather than memorizing the words and their meanings, I am memorizing patterns without actually knowing what anything means.
ALSO the book I am in (En Espanol uno) is hard for me to understand and I get frustrated because currently in chapter one, they are are already putting in words that we don't know and have never been taught. This is hard because there are pages of just dialog where half of the words are completely new to me. I often find myself having to go to google translate which, no offense to google, I feel isn't always accurate and the best way to go.
PLEASE HELP!!
Update:also, someone said that the opportunity should have come earlier, I had the chance in seventh grade but the teacher matters, and with that teacher, I just couldn't enjoy the class or learn anything. so please don't comment on how i "should have learned it earlier" and don't say that i should have "sucked it up" either. I transferred out with my parent's consent. thanks :)

Well, at my school, you can start learning language in 7th grade, so we might be a bit more open to it lol. You should use your context clues because most of our books are in Spanish too but when the teacher givess sure she teaches the basics, the rest is easy. You could buy a Spanish to English dictionary, or there might be one in the back of your book (if you haven't looked yet lol). The dictionary ought to work. El diccionario deber trabajar.
--I never said you should have learned it earlier I said that as a younger child, it may have been easier. Many kids at my school choose to learnlater, there's no problem.
Hi! My mother tongue is Spanish, and although I'm a native speaker I consider that Spanish is a hard language to learn, haha but it's not impossible either. We have a lot of verbs, and a lot of tenses! that's the hard part for most people who is learning Spanish.
I've been learning English like for 3 years, and watching tv programs in English is very useful, the same with music. You could do the same too.
This is a good dictionary, www.wordreference.com
I wish you the best in your learning process! Write the words you don't know, I could help you.
Write them as a different question, so I can answer.
Chao!
Tips? ok, one tip I would give to you is, well you have this task, at this age, yeah it sucks but at least you have the opportunity of learning a new language, life is not perfect this opportunity should had come to you earlier in life, my suggestion would be just go with it and make the best out of this chance! best of luck! and when you get to talking don't be afraid to talk! that's the only way of learning, making mistakes! you go girl!
