We never saw RR in the ring with the fighter the caliber of RL. But we have seen RL in the ring with a fighter fearsome as RR was at 147. So while the prevailing logic has RR whipping RL, I'm not so sure. RL could cope with Re's speed and if he could handle Han's power, he could probably handle Re's power. I'm trying to think if RR fought anyone with the offensive capabilities of RL, and I can't come up with anyone. So, as a match up, I think this one is close.
So who wins? I'll take RR with a narrow decision win, but with RL rallying desperately in the late rounds to put a scare into RR. The deciding factor will be RR's natural size advantage allowing him to work at a longer range and score just enough extra points to win.
Walker Smith Jr. aka Ray Robinson wins hands down. Robinson fought at a time when boxers stepped into the ring 10-15 times a year. I agree with the guy above me, Ray Robinson was the greatest boxer pound for pound of all time.
I saw Ray Robinson fight and , in their prime, Leonard does not even belong in the same ring with Robinson. I never saw any fighter like him. The REAL SUGAR RAY used a friend's ( Ray Robinson ) I.D. to obtain a boxing license because Walker Smith was too young to get one + after a boxing reporter saw one of his earlier fights....he commented--- " That guy is as sweet as sugar "...Robinson could throw any punch from any angle & did it with the finess of ballet star. He never wasted a punch or motion in the ring. He was such a superbly balanced athlete that he was able to utilize his balance & grace as a professional dancer. So many people claim to be the best pound for pound fighter ever....Robinson didn't need to claim anything...he simply was the best pound for pound fighter ever.
Ray Robinson would win easy. He was more faster, stronger and had better footwork. He would of beaten all of the guys that leonard beat and he would of beaten them more impressively. I think a prime lamotta would of beaten leonard. Ray Robinson was undoubtedly the best p4p fighter ever.
having the advantage of watching the real sugar Ray and all of the younger fighters who took on the sugar title if their first name was Ray, I have to say Robinson is the best pound for pound boxer in the history of the game.
He was faster, smoother, had more power than Leonard or any other sugar to come along.
The old movies never do justice to watching someone live, he was the slickest fighter I have ever seen.
His combinations were lightning fast and very powerful.
It's been awhile, but the blogbaba gives Sugar Ray Robinson his due as the greatest pound for pound fighter in the history of boxing. Ray Leonard was good, but not that good.
Real Sugar verses artificial sweetener just doesn't compare.
leonard best fighter from 1980 until now, but robinson the best of all time. leonard would fight gallantly but in the end the real sugar ray would win, by 14 rd tko.
i have to go with leanard only b/c i think he fought the best competition in his class and any other class. Robinson had big fights with lamotta but if you look at leanard he has beaten hearns, duran, and hagler those 3 are considered the best middle/welterweights of all time. I no many will say robinson but i really think leanard would beat him like he beat hearns. everyone thought hearns would come out swingin and leanard would box, by the 7 round leonard was a fighter and had hearns retreating. Against duran too and hagler he was to quick for him even after his prime. i think leonard would win and i htink hagler would have also beat robinson at middlewight.
