Rabbits no matter what it looks like are very clean animals and can be litter trained and your bunny is still pretty young so do not worry there is time to train him (the earlier the better), he has another 4-5 months to reach adulthood.
First off, I have to mention that more harmful for the particular animal is its pee not its poop as this is the one that smells and attracts insects. So my advice is to collect the bedding that he's peed on and put it in the litter box, try to do the same with the poop but I can guarantee you that he may learn to mainly poop in his litter box but you will still see poop everywhere in his cage.
Then, when you change his bedding make sure you keep a tad bit (say a handful) of his old bedding and put it in the litterbox. That way he'll start learning that the litter box is where he should "do his job".
And of course try to keep the food away of the litter, in the opposite side if possible.
That's the method I followed with my buns and now they all pee and poop in a particular corner of their cage but as I said before there is poop everywhere in the cage just not as much as in that particular corner xD and of course when I leave the cage open and they get out they never poop or pee anywhere in the house.
This procedure takes time and patience, one of my buns took around 2 months to learn.
Hope I helped. I wish you luck!!!
