I'm getting a puppy tomorrow, and i'm beyond excited!! + and my parents aren't all that excitied and said that its my responsibility and my brothers but i just need to ask a couple of questions;
1. How do i train it to use the bathroom outside?
- My parents will get very angry if they see and poop or pee inside the house. It's a 3 month old chihuahua so should i train it outside or inside since it's very cold in new york here?
2. What times do they go to the bathroom?
- I heard you have to wake up at like 4 am just for it to go to the bathroom? I don't know my puppy's schedule, and i don't want to wait until i see poop/pee on the floor to figure it out. Also, is it true that if you don't wake them up early to use the bathroom that they will hold it forever and it can harm them??
Thanks so much guys!! :D ..any other tips would be great!!....
P.S. where should my puppy sleep. My parents say in the basement, but i want to let it sleep in my room b/c it might get lonely. &++++ Will the doggg eat christmass presents??!!

The first thing to remember about house training a puppy is there ability to hold themselves is limited. A rule of thumb is they can hold "it" usually 1 hour for each month of age. 2 months old = 2 hours, 3 months old = 3 hours, etc. When your puppy wakes up (morning, nap, whatever) the pup has to go, right then! Take the pup out. When the pup eats or drinks, it has to go, take the pup out. After exercise (play), take the pup out. When the pup does it's thing outside praise it. A lot. Tell the pup how good, how smart it is. You have to pay attention to the pups "looking for it's spot" behavior. When you see that behavior indoors, whisk the pup out. If you catch the pup in the act, simply tell it "NO!" and whisk it outside. If you find a puddle or pile after the fact, clean it up with an enzyme cleaner (pet food store) get a newspaper and hit.... yourself in the head and say "I should have been paying more attention." Daytime training they get pretty fast. Night time training is easier if you crate train the pup. Also remember the one hour/one month rule. You will have to get up through the night to take the pup out. Good luck
No, they will not hold it forever, they will relieve themselves where ever they are. It is up to the human to teach them where to go. Yes, train the dog to go outside. Don't teach the pup your house is a toilet.
Pups will chew whatever they can reach. Again, it is up to you to teach the pup what it can and can not chew.
Dogs chew, that's what they do. It is up to use to teach them what they can and cannot chew on. Some people make the mistake of giving their dog too many chew toys. This will cause the dog to think everything in reach is his/hers to chew on. When you are teaching them what is acceptable to chew on stick to one or two good chew toys. You will have to pay attention, be diligent. When the dog picks up the wrong thing simply tell him/her "No", make the dog drop it, then give the chew toy. When the dog picks up the chew toy, give lots of praise, let the dog know that was the right thing to do. You do that and soon your dog will go for the chew toy every time. That is the way I train my dogs.
This is what ehow has to say about it:
Step1
Give your dog only a few toys. The toys should be varied in shapes and materials. If you give him too many toys to chew on, he may think that he has free reign on anything else in the house.
Step2
Let the dog play with these toys often. You can even buy toys designed to be filled with treats. The more the dog chews on the toys, the more likely she will chew on them instead of other items.
Step3
Use the crate training method. Dogs that are crate trained behave better and do not have access to your furniture or shoes when they are unattended.
Step4
Tell the dog "no" when you catch him chewing on a forbidden item. Give the dog one of his toys and pet him to let him know that the toy is alright to chew on.
Step5
Startle your dog by using a water gun. Spraying the dog with water when she is chewing will cause her to associate the object as untouchable.
Step6
Put a chewing spray on your forbidden items. Anti-chewing sprays containing bitter flavors can be placed on furniture, shoes and toys. Dogs do not like the taste, so they will avoid chewing on the items.

Already they want to banish the pup to the basement? That is asking for problems..
I know we will hear from you again...
Wow, you might have trouble with this dog if your parents are against it. Fun now, you'll regret it later.
1. They will see a lot of pee and poop inside probably, at least if you go to school. A puppy needs to go out once every hour except at night time. It depends on the puppy, some can hold it for longer while others can not.
Take it out after it's slept, eaten or played. Give LOTS of praise when it pees or poops outside and when you catch it doing business inside the house you DON'T punish it and just pick the puppy up and rrruun outside to put it on the grass. Same at morning, the dog has been holding itself for a long time so the very first thing you do is pick up the puppy and hurry outside.
If you find that the puppy has made an accident inside you can't punish it anymore because the puppy does not understand that you're punishing it for doing it inside. Say nothing and clean it up and make sure all smell goes away. If a puppy scents that it has peed there before it will pee there again.
2. As I said some can hold it the whole night while others can not. No one has ever had a puppy that has never done accidents inside.
Don't let your puppy sleep alone the first nights. It's terrible for the dog!! It just got taken away from it's mother and in the wild puppies need to stick with their families to survive, so the puppy will panic if left alone whole nights. So you should really let it sleep in your room!
If it will eat christmas presents depends on the dog too. At least you should not let it get to them.
I suggest you should read some books about dogs and do research on the internet to find the information you'll need :)
Food four times a day, puppies need more time to digest the food. At 4 months age you can take one meal away, and at 5 months you give food twice a day the rest of the dogs life!
1. When she/he goes bathroom in the house stick its nose in the bathroom and say sternly NO! To stop this put your dog outside like every hour or get a doggie door.
2. It depends :P
3. You can set up a kennel or a gate type thingy with newspapers in your room so you can have him in there. You can also keep him in the bathroom that what we did with our puppy.
Give your dog LOTS and LOTS of love and care! I would feed it 1 cup of food a day once a day :D HAVE FUN!
1. Chihuahua's are known for being hard to house train mine is 10 weeks old and isn't trained fully yet and most get really exited and pee from fright or from being over excited also, mine doesn't do the whole shake and whine thing most do.
2. They go when they have too they dont have a schedule :).
3. And my dogs sleep in my room on the bed. And I agree if you dont want puddles of pee on your ped then I think in a kennel in your room if you are worried about it being "loney".
