My 23 month old daughter has recently shown an interest in trying to use her potty chair. Right before her bath she sits on the potty chair and tries to go. I sit on the big toilet and she can hear it when I go, then she looks at me and signs, Mine doesn't work!
My sister thinks it's time to just go for it and let her run around naked-bum... Put the potty chair in the living room and tell her to run and sit down if she needs to pee.
Has anyone else used that method? I'm nervous about having a big whoosh on the carpet.......
My sister said her daughter never had one accident... She didn't want to pee on her feet, so she would run and sit on the potty in time.
What method did you use to help your child potty train? And how long did it take until they consistently used the toilet at home during the day?

I used this method with both my kids. It does work. You will have an accident or 2 on the floor but you've probably spilled things on your floor a few times too. It cleans up, no big deal. The first time my daughter peed on the floor it scared her to death and she didn't do it again. She figured out what it felt like and went right for the potty. My son had a couple accidents but he figured out it looks cooler to pee into water than onto the floor. Took a little longer for him but not by much. You'll still need diapers at night for a little while though.
Good luck!
She's pretty young yet for potty training, and it sounds like she doesn't yet have the control necessary to be able to use the potty.
You could try the bare-bottom method (do it outside to save the carpets). If she IS ready, she'll pick it up pretty quickly -- a few days at most. If not ... go back to diapers and let her play at sitting on the potty for as long as she finds it fun. In 9-18 months she's more likely to be really ready.
