I got a traffic ticket for "following too closely" and the court date is October 11th. However, I paid my fine online through the court's website. Does that mean that I am no longer have to appear in court on October 11th ? Please help, this is the first time ever I got a ticket.

If you've got a receipt, showing that you paid the ticket online, you should be safe. (Paying the ticket is basically the same as pleading guilty.) You do not have to go to court. Good luck!
New violation to me!
How did they obtain evidence of this.
The fact you paid the fine is perhaps not enough.
You would have been required to pay it within a defined period.
You are able to request copies of any photographic evidence, to review and determine whether or not it supports a violation has occurred.
Anything at all to halt the madness of revenue robbery of the motorist/traveller.
Dick Turpin got hung for it, and his present day accomplices deserve a similar fate.
If you paid late, then you may have to contact the court to get "written" confirmation your attendance is not required.
Aways keep copies of your correspondence, note phone calls and require written confirmation of the content/issues discussed.
That question should have been answered right there on line when you paid. I don't mean anything by this but, did you read EVERYTHING on that page when you paid it? There should have been instructions, or notice that an email will be forthcoming.
When in doubt, call the court.
