Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. OTC is a very good and highly effective BC method when used properly. In time your periods will become shorter and lighter with fewer cramps and it does help with acne. With that being said; most women do not like their birth control when they first start it. There is an adjustment phase that may last up to three months while your body adjusts to the new hormone. You may have several side effects (read package insert) and acne may get worse before it gets better. These side effects do go away, but you have to stick with it and tough it out. It is worth it in the end. Good Luck
I went from Ortho Tri-Cyclen to Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo and I was very agitated, upset all the time, and pissed off by very stupid things. I will never ever take that again!
Oh my... I had so many problems with that pill! I advise you to think twiced on starting it! I bled for 6 months straight. The doctor kept telling me that it would straighten out within a few months, and it didn't! It just got worse... I became incredibly weak and pale, and wound up anemic because of it! I had to beg to get switched to a different pill. Do some research before you start... I don't want anyone to have to go through what I did!
I was on Alesse for years and then switched to Ortho Tricyclen Lo and noticed some mild cramping mid month (so mild I almost couldn't feel it). That's about it!

I think it's good. It's supposed to help clear up acne if you have it. I never really did. But it didn't break me out or anything. I liked it.
When I first started it, I had my period for 3 months. It was horrible. My doctor switched me.
