Hiya, I'm 15 and was told my school is taking the art students on a cultural trip to New York City! Im from Ireland and have never been to America so I was just wondering wether New York is really like what you see on tv and in the movies? Sorry if i sound stupid and tourist-y, I'm just sooo excited! Also, we will be going in Oct, so will it be cold there? What should I wear? How much spending money will I bring? We will be going to art galleries and clothing markets and seeing shows on broadway and I kinda want to buy some abercrombie stuff cos we dont have it here!

New York is kind of like it is on tv! Its exaggerated some, but pretty similar.
Weather: It depends when in October. In the beginning of the month it still isn't very cold, (70's maybe?) Towards the end of October the high is usually in the 50's/60's, with lows in the 40's. So bring a variety of clothes, but mostly jeans and hoodies I'd say
Money: Abercrombie is expensive, i'll leave it at that. I'd bring atleast $100 a day for food and necessities, and than a few hundred more for shopping and excursion.
Have fun! I'm from New York, and I'm actually going back in October to visit my parents!
New York City is just like it is in the movies and television, though cinema is more hyped up than it actually is. It depends on the day, where you are and the event. It's not stupid to ask, there's nothing wrong with being a tourist, it's awesome. In October it will be slightly cold, bring a light jacket or sweater, and an extra pair of socks. It's in the 50s-60s Farenheit. If you are going to art galleries, be prepared to include transportation to and from, if you buy any souvenirs and admittance charges, a week will run you maybe $200-$300 for just the museum depending on how many and which. Food can be cheap or expensive-depending on the quality, basic is about $5-$20 a meal, a nicer restaurant will run you more. There's one Ambercrobie store on 56th street and 5th avenue, just bring another hundred or two for that. Tickets to Broadway shows are $50-$100 about. Bring a little under $1,000 and if you need more, we have banks and currency exchanges but worth the fees instead of carrying $1,000 plus on you. Enjoy when you get here!
In regards to the weather. You're going in October, therefore, expect to wear some fall clothes as it will be some what chilly.
In regards to spending money. Well, that depends on how long you're staying in the Big Apple. It is recommended that you have a budget of at least $100 a day for your trip. So, for example, if you're in town for about a week, $700 should be set aside. You may have something left over at the end of the day, but it is better to have enough with you rather than running short and having a miserable vacation.
If you are going shopping, it is recommend you have around $500 set aside for this. The shopping is fantastic in New York and you will get great deals.
I hope this information is very helpful.
Good luck

you will love it!!!! NYC is such a great/beautiful city!!!
and the weather is not that bad, I actually find it most pleasant in October, however you may want to pring a light jacket and some jeans. and you should bring enough money that you feel comfortable with or just get a debit card... but I will say you will probably spend aleast 100 dollars (78 euros)a day-- depending where you go. Abercombie is way expensive but so worth it!
HAVE FUN!
