Ok I'm not really new to riding and I jump but my knees always stick out! Everytime I close them on the saddle I don't have enough muscele to keep them there. Do you have any tips on how to keep them there or anything I could do when I'm not riding to strengthen those muscles??
Update:Thanks! I am hopefully going to be riding soon so I will try lunges, the chair thing, and other stuff! Thanks again! Keep answering!

Work in a gym on your thighs- do that machine where you need to pull and push weight with your legs (you either pull them apart or push them together on the machine).
Once your calves and thighs are stronger, your knees will strengthen as well. If it is a matter of support, you could try knee braces to help out as well- some people just have weaker knees than others. I have that problem with my right ankle- I have to wear a brace or it gets very painful.
The reason the stick out is because your heels are up. If you shove them down when you go over the jump, the you will not fall forward and your legs will be in the perfect position!
Knees stick out because your heels are up and your calves are not on the horse. Try to think about wrapping your legs around the horse, and pointing your toes to the sky. It works, I should know!
Try rotating your whole leg from the hip. It will get your knees to contact the saddle from the side-front instead of the side-back. As a bonus, it will get your feet parallel with the horse.
riding bareback a lot, two pointing a lot, and riding without irons, especially at a posting trot, all build leg muscles and balance. especially posting and two pointing at all gaits bareback. always keep your legs and feet in the correct position though. you can also stand on the edge of a stair and stretch your heels down, this will build muscles in your calves, and i think that would help with your knees.
If your instructor is telling you to put your knees in, ask them.
I know for me It's not a lack of muscle, but the fact that I have so much muscle, it's hard for my knees to hit the saddle.
I would suggest working on your quads by doing lots and lots of lunges. Quad muscles are what you need to roll in your knees and grip with the knees. Without a strong quad you are trying to use only calf muscles, which will bever be as strong as your quad, and, griping only with your calves, your needs turn outwards.
Well, put papers between both knees while you are riding and make sure that the paper doesn't fall. It teaches you to keep your leg tight on your horse.
It might also be that your stirrups aren't too short.
Sorry, I couldn't help much!
Maybe you just need to extend the stirrups but if your knees are the problem i suggest working out your hamstrings and your calves and drink milk to help you get strong bones.
post with your feet out of the stirrups. off your horse.... put something between your knees. an orange or something like it
Stairs, swimming, jogging are good exercises to help build leg muscles. & make sure your heels are down.
